Lafuma Warm 'n Light 1000 Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Down

Lafuma Warm 'n Light 1000 Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 November 21, 2008

We already owned a pair of Lafuma WnL 600s when we picked up a pair of Lafuma WnL 1000s to extend the usefulness of our gear to three seasons. Our new WnL 1000s kept us warm just fine in late October on Bear Mountain in NY. They zipped together nicely and we used them with Therm-a-Rest sleeping pads in an MSR tent with the rainfly on. In other words, these work as advertised if you use them with a bunch of other gear (which campers usually do, right?). For sub-zero temperatures we would consider nesting the WnL 600s inside the WnL 1000s. For minimal size and heft, our Lafuma sleeping bags deliver acceptable performance at moderate cost... 4.5 stars overall.

Snow Peak Solo Cutting Board

Snow Peak Solo Cutting Board

Rating for this product: 5 November 21, 2008

Light and multi-functional. Nice plate for bread and cheese at lunchtime on the trail. Useful for getting the camp fire going for dinner. Fits nicely into the stuff sack of our 2L MSR Titan pot (just the right length, rounded corners). Handy in the kitchen when we're not camping.

Coleman Egg Carrier - 6 Count

Coleman Egg Carrier - 6 Count

Rating for this product: 5 November 21, 2008

We got two of these (one for each of us) and they are sooo super cute! We used to just carry pre-boiled eggs in a plastic bag (to go with our bread and cheese on the trail), but nevermore. Now we can even pack fresh eggs for breakfast!

Salomon Moto Tech T-Shirt - Women's

Salomon Moto Tech T-Shirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 21, 2008

I got this shirt (black XS) during a big sale and didn't think much of it. Then it arrived and I started wearing it, and it was a -huge- hit with the hubby! It's also comfortable, dry, wrinkle-free, and high quality in all aspects of its construction. Extremely nice look and feel. But the fact that he says it looks hot on me really sends it over the top and makes it my favorite technical tee.

Snow Peak Titanium Silverware Set

Snow Peak Titanium Silverware Set

Rating for this product: 4 November 19, 2008

We got two sets for camping. The pieces are sturdier and safer to cook with than the compostable utensils that we used to bring along. The knives cut through steak without a problem. The nylon sleeves are neat and functional, but I've docked a star because we received ugly colors.

Mountain Hardwear Wicked Tank - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Wicked Tank - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 July 30, 2008

This shirt is so light and comfortable that it's my new favorite summertime pajama top! It will be coming along on our next hiking/camping adventure for sure. In difference to the others, I'm quite satisfied with the length of this shirt (I have a 17" torso length, and the XS hits me 2" below the top of my hip bone). And yes, the white/casper version is see-through, but I think it will layer discreetly. I love this shirt!

grrreat pot!

MSR Titan Titanium 2 Liter Pot

MSR Titan Titanium 2 Liter Pot

Rating for this product: 5 July 30, 2008

We bought this for use on a ten-day trip with friends through Death Valley and Yosemite. We used it together with their MSR Pocket Rocket. We cooked pasta, rice, and soup (for five) in this pot. One morning we even managed to make bacon and scrambled eggs (got around the heat distribution issue by moving the pot over the flame while the goods were still cookin'). We had an really easy time washing up every time; *nothing* sticks to the titanium. Since other reviewers mentioned it, we were a little concerned about how much we would like the pot holder, but hey it worked great for us, even when the pot was full of boiling pasta (very stable). We were glad to not have to buy or carry separate plates; the lid worked great. It all packed up nicely into its own stuff sack, and totally outshone our friends' gear!

MSR Pocket Rocket Stove

MSR Pocket Rocket Stove

Rating for this product: 5 July 30, 2008

Together with a 2L MSR Titan pot, this little stove can cook a lot of food! We never had any problems with stability; we just made sure that the the pot was at least somewhat centered over the stove. For foods that required heat distribution (like bacon), we just moved the pot over the flame a bit; the flame packs quite a punch and does the job quickly. We just bought an MSR Titan Kettle to add to the mix. All the pieces nests together nicely. We went camping with friends, some beginners and some experienced, and *everyone* was impressed with the Pocket Rocket's size, weight, speed, and ease of use! The other stove that our friends had packed never saw the light of day.

does the job

Therm-a-Rest ProLite 3 Stuff Sack

Therm-a-Rest ProLite 3 Stuff Sack

Rating for this product: 4 July 29, 2008

Sure, the sack should come with the pad, but if it did, then no one would be able to customize their own Therm-a-Rest configuration. Following a previous reviewer's advice, we found that the Pro-Lite 3 Stuff Sack slides nicely over the Pro-Lite 4 Sleeping Pad (though it *must* be rolled up thoroughly). Once we got used to using them together, we were quite glad to be packing that much less bulk! One caveat: The end handle isn't built to withstand hard tugging.

light and small!

Lafuma Warm'n Light 600 Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Down

Lafuma Warm'n Light 600 Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 4 July 28, 2008

The light weight and small bulk of these sleeping bags can't be beat. Using a left-zip and right-zip together, we were nice and toasty even when camped at high elevation, below the recommended temperature rating. But the sleeping bags are quite thin and we had to learn (the hard way) to keep them completely out of contact with the sides of our tent; even a little contact at our feet caused noticeable heat loss.
