Pack is poorly designed

Mammut Freeride 25 Avalanche Package

Mammut Freeride 25 Avalanche Package

Rating for this product: 3 March 6, 2009

I purchased this package to head to Utah for some back country skiing. I have no complaints with the beacon/shovel/etc. but the pack is no good. First, the zipper ties fell off two of the zippers making it very difficult to get in and out of the bag everytime I had to get my skins. Even if they did not come off, they are way too small to pull with gloves on. The side pockets are of very little use as the ski straps constrict the pockets. The shoulder straps are very narrow so when you are wearing the bag, the straps are on edge instead of lying flat. Finally, the chest strap that holds together the shoulder straps is too short, so you have a lot of tension on the chest. I am 6' 195lbs. Perhaps the bag would fit someone who is smaller better. Either way, good luck getting to that shovel to dig your buddy out of an avalanche with those zipper ties!
