This could work as a layer, but I would recommend wearing this over some layers, as this is a shell. It can be used as a layer, with a down jacket, or something along those lines, but it is meant as a shell.

The Tailgate is not going to be able to open as fully as it should with the rack in place, it will work, but the tailgate won't reach its maximum openess with the rack in place.

Boot flexion is really on a personal preference base. Some people like em soft for all mtn, some like them stiff all mtn. It just comes down to what you like, typically a softer boot is for park and a stiffer more responsive boot is for all mtn riding, but again, personal preference.
September 2, 2008
All of our sizes on-hand are shown in the drop down menu in the upper right hand corner of the screen, as well as colorways (if applicable ), as far as price matching, we do not do that.

The T-Rice and the Custom are relatively the same as far as stiffness. The T-Rice is a little wider. I would recommend getting the same size or relatively close though. You don't want to play around too much with that.

These boots are not vegan friendly.
July 27, 2008
Yes, these skis have Magne-traction, its 5 contact points on each edge to give you optimal edging. Its the newest wave of tech coming out of the winter world, it actually works.
Yo, to add to this a little, here is a picture of Magnetraction and a page that describes how it works:

No it is now, only 2 ring.
Most road bikes are going to a compact-double design and shying away from having a triple front chainring. It decreases weight, and almost any gear ranges that you need are available in a 34-50T crankset and 11-23 cassette.

Unfortunately North Face tents are no longer made in Berkeley, CA. Those were the good old days. I still have a Pole Sleeve Oval & Westwind that proudly display the "Made In The USA" label!
July 27, 2008
These boots are going to be fairly rigid. They have 4 buckles to optimize support and response. They are a pretty aggressive boot for aggressive riders

The Denali is thick heavyweight fleece so it's super-warm but not windproof. This is a completely windproof softshell jacket with a fleece lining. It's not as warm but protects better against wind and rain.

I ran a hard 50 mile trail race in these shoes and they were awesome!Great support, stable, great traction, sticky/grippy, good protection underfoot, lightweight, kept my feet pretty cool.My only gripe is the tongue, it's really thick/bulky and I'm not sure why it needs to be. I like more of a sleeve-type, but oh well.Everything else is right on. I've worn many different shoes and I've found with the Montrails, they all fit a bit different. Some are narrower, like the new Hurricane Ridge XCR---I wore the older ones for years and loved them but can't fit into the new one. They are shorter, VERY narrow, but my foot is petite/narrow. The old ones had a much wider platform and toebox. The Streak is great for a narrow foot but still has a roomy toebox. I also like that they are pretty low-profile. I tried the Hardrock and it was just way too much shoe for me. As for Salomons, I've worn the older models and the Streak has a similar fit, narrow but with a roomy toebox. Good luck

If you can not find the non lifter version then it is totally possible to mount this binding without the included lifter plates. Just keep in mind that the included screws will need to be shortened or otherwise you will dimple the base of your ski by drilling too far. I mounted the Look PX 14 Ti Lifter Legend Wide Alpine Ski Bindings (sans lifters) on my K2 Pontoons two years ago and have had no problems. You need to bend the brakes to fit around the 130mm waist width. I actually prefer the lowered, next to ski, feeling. It is definitely the way to roll on super wide skis.

You need a 21 speed chain.
More specifically, a 6/7/8 speed chain. Backcountry doesn't stock these (they're kind of elitist in their biking offerings :)), but you can stop by your LBS for a chain. Be sure to get a SRAM chain, they're much better built and easier to service than anything else on the market.
A SRAM PC-850 chain should run you ~$16-18.

*Edit*
Whoa, whoa, whoa! Sorry to rain on your parade, but mountain cranksets are designed for 9 speed chains. A 10 speed chain (what you need for the cassette) is too small to work on these chainrings.
For an authoritative answer, just take a look at Shimano's product specs. This crankset is designed for 9 speed cassettes, not 10 speed.
http://bike.shimano.com/publish/content/global_cycle/en/us/i
You'll need a Shimano 10-speed road crankset, or a SRAM Red/Force/Rival crankset to work with a 10 speed cassette.

They will serve as some protection, but they are not made for snake protection
No non-venomous snake (in North America) has teeth any where near long enough to get through this material. The only (only!) thing that would be of any concern would be very large pit vipers (read: big ol rattlers). Snakes that big are tremendously rare in the wild and, trust me, they do not want to tangle with you. Herpetologists that stomp into rattler country on purpose wear loose fitting long pants over regular ol hiking boots and carry a long stick. You are good to go!
June 26, 2008
Yes they do run true to size.
June 26, 2008
the Resolve is slightly less expensive because of the material used. The Venture is more likely to keep you dry from the rain but also dry because it is made with the core venting material which will be more breatheable. For the difference in price. I would invest in the North Face Venture

I think these would be perfect, not ridiculous at all, they are versatile SPD or Sneaker ready, perfect for cycloross.
Honestly I have no problem riding with the Candy pedals without my cleats. In addition to saving some cash, you'd also save 232 g (.5 lbs), which definitely worth considering because you're *saving money* to lose weight. How often does that happen?!

For bumps and groomers a 169 would be better. In powder the 177 will be better because it will help you float. It will also be better for skiing crud. Keep in mind that twin-tip are short for their length. A 177 will be more like a 170-172 non twin.
Yo for your size you should absolutely stay away from the 169. You'll over-turn that thing. I'm 5'9" and 135lbs and swear by the 185cm, mounted a bit back. This ski rips the piss out of every condition...as long as the snow is less than boot-top deep. It's a little skittery in deep snow. Mounted back really helps w/ all mountain performance as this ski is a bit stiff for true freestyle. Even w/ them mounted back a few cm, you can still rally around the mountain switch a-okay!

The pack has no adjust ability for torso,it can hold 50 lbs comfortably, and there is no frame in this pack.
in addition to the above answer, mine does have a metal bar running down the length of the spine. while i haven't tried bending it, i noticed it is possible to take the bar out and thought to myself that i could conceivably put a different bar in. if you put in a piece of aluminum, i can see it being possible to micro adjust the back frame to a particular user's back.
