Arc'teryx Alpha SL Jacket - Men's

December 30, 2008

Chicago being the windy city, this will be a great jacket for the winter since the Gore-Tex membrane is not only waterproof-breathable but also windproof. Do note that the jacket has zero insulation. I think that's great because it makes it a lot more versatile. You can use it as a technical shell with insulating layers in the winter and as a rain jacket in the summer.

The North Face Softwool Crew Shirt - Long Sleeve - Men's

The North Face Softwool Crew Shirt - Long Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 28, 2008

I'm a big fan of merino wool, in fact I'm progressively phasing out my synthetic base and mid layers. So yeah, with merino you always get superb breathability, wicking, quick drying and insulation while wet. It's also a lot softer than wool. However this North Face merino crew is unbelievably soft. Seriously, I had to check the label a few times to make sure it was 100% merino wool. I own and use other merino wool shirts, and love them, but they're not as soft as this guy.
*Please note this is the same review as posted for TNF Softwool 1/4 zip.

Burton AK 3L Hover Jacket - Men's

Burton AK 3L Hover Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 November 26, 2008

I was looking for a waterproof-breathable that looked good in the city. I almost found it. The sleeves are too short if, like me, you're planning on riding a bike with it. Otherwise, the fit is fantastic. The breathability is very good, and the ingeniously placed vents rock. Its downfall is that the seams at the cuffs and hem are not taped, and thus leak water during serious downpours. If you're never going to see rain, run, don't walk to get this jacket, you won't regret it. Otherwise, perhaps you might want to find a jacket that has 100% of its seams sealed.

Arc'teryx Apache AR Zip - Men's

Arc'teryx Apache AR Zip - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 26, 2008

The sleeves are a little short and so is the torso. This was not an issue with the Regent I also have in the same size. Other than that, wow is this thing comfortabl! The fleece has a nice dense ''weave'' on the outside.
