KEEN Targhee ll Hiking Shoe - Men's

KEEN Targhee ll Hiking Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 June 24, 2008

I just bought a pair of these low-cuts the other day, after enjoying a pair of the mid-cuts for the past year. I like the wide toe box and the rubber toe covering for roots and rocks. Keen's sizing is puzzling. I have a pair of Keen Austin casual shoes, size 10, that fit fine. But when I tried the Targhee mid-cuts in 10, they were way too small. I got the 10.5 and have been wearing them. But still they were a bit snug for trail work and hikes. Last week the soles began to delaminate, i.e., the black pointed rubber was coming unglued from the gray sole base. I took it back to the store and actually got to exchange the pair for a new pair -- this time in a size 11. I like the 11 best. I just finished a nature hike with my Targhee low-cuts, size 11, and really prefer that size. However, all my other boots and shoes are size 10. So, watch out when buying. Try them on and walk around. I have narrow feet -- B -- and even narrower heels. I have not had problems with heel slippage. For hikes, though, I usually wear a thin sock liner under my socks to prevent potential rubbing.
These Targhee II shoes and boots are well worth it.

Marmot Sharp Point Softshell Jacket - Men's

Marmot Sharp Point Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 June 12, 2008

I just now bought a Marmot Sharp Point after studying the offerings out there. I had returned a North Face Marvel because of the tight arm pits (and not having pit zips). This Sharp Point seems to have it all. I look forward to using it. One suggestion would be for the company to offer a Velcro-and-elastic cuff combo. It has a Velcro cuff only. So, each time I put on or take off the jacket, I'll have to deal with the Velcro fasteners. Everything else is great, though. Good insulation, lightweight, zip pockets. Super quality.

The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket - Men's

The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 June 2, 2008

Regrettably, I'll be returning my medium-size Apex Bionic today. The jacket is absolutely perfect for me --- except, for some reason, the armpit area is way too tight and contstricting. I Don't think it would ever stretch out enough. I would not be able to wear a sweater or anything under it. I'm a chesty 5'7", 177 lbs, 16 neck and 32 arm. I don't know what the North Face designer was thinking. I'm afraid a size large would have arms way too long. I guess I'll have to try one on at a store first. It's too bad. I had gotten a discontinued model for almost half price. The customer service person thinks the newest models are cut the same as mine.
Oh well.....
