Pete LaBore's Chicagoland Fly Fishing Getaways
Created May 24, 2010
Chicagoland isn't exactly a trout stream mecca, but just a short drive away (3-4) hours, southwest Wisconsin offers some great fishing. Getting to and from the area on a budget, usually means I camp it...It's also because I usually only get a 24 hour window to squeeze in some stream time, so the closer to the stream I can stay, the more fishing I get. Plus, it adds a little adventure to the getaway. Thus, this is the gear I usually take for a drive up and camp to get the early morning hatch (spring through early fall).

Pete LaBore's Chicago Trail Run Races
Created June 6, 2010
I'll take any chance I can get to get off the pavement and get amongst the trees. While it's not exactly mountainous, there is a local trail running series in Chicago (mostly forest preserve limestone and a little bit of singletrack), that gives me somethin to keep the juices flowing.
http://www.chicagotrailseries.com/
This is the gear I wear for warmer weather (late spring to early fall), shorter distance (5k to 20k) races. I only use the bottle if the races are unsupported or on training runs.- Helpful Votes: 0 Yes |

Pete LaBore's Resort Skiing
Created March 7, 2010
Since I'm not near the mountains these days, the plane trip west isn't always in the stars or convenient. Thus, this is the gear I'd typically wear out west, but unfortunately get's more wear in the Midwest these days....Some turns are better than no turns.

Pete LaBore's Winter Trail Running near Chicago
Created October 20, 2009
I know your first question is trail running and IL, I don't get it...Well, we work with what we got. If you live near the Chi, and are looking to get out of the concrete jungle, this ain't too shabby. It's a 25 minute drive outside of the city, and has some pretty nice hills, a few stream crosses, and even some log walks over some small ravines. I run it all year around, but mostly in fall and winter. This is the gear I use for those fall and winter runs.

Fits a little snug, longer arms, but not as wonky on me as described by some of the other reviews. Was a little scratchy on the man nips after a getting wet.

Nathan HPL #008 Race Vest
February 13, 2011
Training for a 50k and debating on this pack vs the hpl 020. Any recess. Prefer lightweight and less, but don't want to run out of water on summer runs. Mostly will be running in park city: mid mountain and round valley.

Osprey Packs Raptor 18 Hydration Pack - 1100cu in
January 12, 2011
Thanks Mike. I think this is biggest Raptor Osprey offers. For trail running, looking for a pack/hip belt I can snug up pretty tight. Also want a pack that I can snug the bladder pretty well. Any reco's on an alternate? Maybe an Osprey Manta 35 or Gregory Z30 or BD Nitro are others I was looking at.

Osprey Packs Raptor 18 Hydration Pack - 1100cu in
January 11, 2011
Looking at this pack for an overnight summer trail running trip and curious how much I could fit in this bag as well as how cumbersome it would be. I'm not sure exactly what gear I'll be taking yet , but assume minimal as possible: bivy sack or small sleeping bag, few energy bars, light/packable jacket, spare socks. Also hoping to do some fly fishing on the trip, so will likely strap a 4 piece pole to the outside and have a small fly box and reel in the pack. Any thoughts on if this pack can hold?

Norrøna Lofoten Gore-Tex Pro Shell Jacket - Women's
December 13, 2010
A shell is just an outer layer without insulation that you would typically layer underneath to stay warm. Layering is typically better for active days so you can adjust when the temperature adjusts (i.e. when skiing). In this case the shell is made from Gore-Text Pro Shell, so it provides both outer protection from the elements and allows your sweat to escape well.

Merrell Stealth T-Shirt - Button-Down - Men's
September 14, 2008
I'd say the naming of this as a button down t-shirt is a bit of a misnomer. In my book, if it's got buttons (not to mention a collar), it can't be a t-shirt. This one has buttons and a collar = button down.

Patagonia Lightweight Hiking Crew Sock

Depends what kind of weather you have for summer, but in general, I think they'd be a little overkill for the summer or warm/hot weather.
