Terrific jacket

The North Face Mountain Light Parka - Women's

The North Face Mountain Light Parka - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 25, 2008

I was in the market for a light, casual everyday jacket which would block out the wind and be waterproof as well. This is my first North Face clothing purchase and I found that the small size had the perfect arm length (most of my jackets are always too long on the arms) and the hip area is form-fitting. I would recommend trying them on at the North Face store for the right fit. My boyfriend thought it was extremely expensive given that it's pretty much a glorified rain jacket. I was thrilled to find it on this site for more than 50% off.

Ordering: When I first ordered this from this site, they delivered the wrong product - I got a North Face Black Small Denali Fleece jacket which had the correct labels on the shipping slip, as well as the packaging. I immediately notified them through their chat online service and they shipped out the correct order right away. Customer service was great and returning it was a snap.

Pros:
Perfect for windy weather as it keeps out the cold. I have yet to test it in rainy weather. The slanted pockets are perfectly located for you to slip your hands in comfortably. There's also a hidden left chest pocket. The zip-in option is great for zipping in a fleece which makes the jacket extra warm. I happen to have a spare fleece from REI that zipped in perfectly. The only thing to watch for is to make sure you hold onto the edge of your sleeves as you take the jacket off, otherwise, your fleece arms will be left hanging inside out and it'll be difficult to put the jacket back on. Also, you won't have access to the two inner pockets once the fleece is zipped in. However, it's perfect for San Francisco where layering is key.

Cons:
I was laying on a bench with the hood on to block out the sun, and couldn't figure out why the hood was so uncomfortable. Turns out there's a cinch-cord smack-dab in the middle of the back of the hood. The waist cinch cords are located in the front pockets, which you can't help tugging on when you pull stuff out of your pockets. Also, the velcro teeth lining the front of the jacket face out on the left side which is great for not catching on your clothes when you wear the jacket. However, if you hang the jacket on the back of a chair, you'll have to avoid leaning back.
