Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride Glove

I want to begin by saying I use Hestra and Hestra only. Biased? Maybe, but with good reason. The company will always stand by their product. Their customer service is excellent, email responses are fast, and they just love talking about their gloves! I personally own three pairs of Hestra's from the warm Heli Mitt, to the thin Cloud Nine for touring and my go to glove, the Vertical Cut Freeride.

This glove kills it in basic conditions from 10-40 degrees. Anything below I would go for the Heli Mitt or anything above I would spring for my Cloud Nines. This isn't to say that you couldn't use it in either of those conditions I just prefer the other two. That said, 80% of the time I'm definitely using the VCF. Why? Because it's bomb proof and dexterous as, well you know. Pole plants have never felt so integral to my body with these gloves. They keep me warm except on a frigid day at Jay Peak. I can easily navigate on an iPhone touch screen once the fingers start to chill up. The fit is second to none. I can punch through tight glades with no fear of bruising my knuckles. They grip a beer and if you get crafty they'll open it too.

A few notes about the glove and the areas where they don't perform. They might be slightly tight at first but they will pack out a bit. These gloves are leather, make sure to feed them with plenty of leather balm to keep them alive and well. If the conditions are extremely wet, such as 60degrees in Tahoe, they will get soaked. If the wind chill is a beautiful -30F blowing from the Canadian Plains on the Freezer at Jay my hands do get cold.

What else can I say? Oh, and they look sexy. That's a fact, buy them.

Amazing Style and Engineering

POC Eye Am Sunglasses - Polarized Photochromic

These sunglasses are killing it! I'll start by saying I've never owned a nice pair of sunglasses until now. I can now understand that this is money well spent. No more headaches and squinting for me.

I'll start of by saying the fit is perfect for my face. Just for comparison reasons I use Smith I/O's and find the fit to be spot on. The other sunglasses I compared when making my purchase were the Electric BSG Sunglasses which I found to be a tad too small and dug into my face. They were also HEAVY due to the pure glass optics. The only weird thing to note about these sunglasses is that the side arms aren't perfectly parallel to one another. One side hangs down further then the other. Why? I don't know. Does it make for a better fit? For some strange reason it does.

The optics are amazing. The photochromic properties do adjust depending on the amount of UV light present. The only time where this is not the case is in your car. Car windows come with UV protection for your eyes thus eliminating the adjustment based on the amount of light entering your car. The lenses have also been polarized, need I say more? As far as coverage goes, it feels like I'm wearing a pair of goggles. Ski touring with these this winter in the Wasatch is going blow me away.

As far as build goes they're definitely top notch. The NXT lenses used for the optics are killer. They originally developed the material on helmets for fighter jet pilots to undergo the rigors of their daily jobs, the lenses then are bulletproof. The material is light and extremely durable and even POC guarantees these sunglasses to be unbreakable. Good thing because I abuse my gear day in and day out. The frame itself feels good and due to the lightness of lenses you don't feel as though your being weighed down.

Styling? Swedish understatement with larger than life shades, I'm in love. Everyday I have people asking, "Who makes those?".

Vasque Wasatch GTX Backpacking Boot - Men's

I've done about 100 miles with various day hikes on these. The real test was this week taking them through the White Mountains in NH. Conquered four peaks, dredge through ankle high mud, climbed up and down vertical with minimal footing, forded streams, and hiked about 30 miles in four days with a 70L pack. My feet were never worn from abuse, the shoe still shows no sign of wear, and best of all I was dry the entire time even with a day of rain. These boots sure performed when I needed them, I'm definitely not going to give them up.
