Light, packable, great design.

MontBell Ultralight Down Inner Parka - Men's

MontBell Ultralight Down Inner Parka - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 11, 2009

I traded up from a Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero and am happy with the change. The MontBell is lighter, packs into a very small stuff sack (included), and I like the hood. Only thing I would like to see changed is a zippered pocket somewhere. As far as fit goes, it seems to fit pretty true-to-size for me...I have the large and am 6 ft., 170 lbs. and it fits just right.

Thin, breathe well

Backcountry.com SynthTrail Crew Sock - 3-Pack

Backcountry.com SynthTrail Crew Sock - 3-Pack

Rating for this product: 4 August 24, 2009

I mountain bike in these and they generally do a good job of keeping my feet cool and dry. Would love to see a broader range in size as L/XL is a little roomier than I'd like for a size 10 foot...may be a little too thin when the weather drops, so planing on it being a summer sock.

Black Diamond Oval Carabiner

Black Diamond Oval Carabiner

Rating for this product: 4 August 24, 2009

I'm not climbing with them, but they work great as a general utility 'biner- I use them on the river, backpacking, around the house to hang/store gear...no complaints.

Arc'teryx Apache AR Zip - Men's

March 18, 2009

I'd go with a Large...I'm 6' and 170 and have a Medium and it's just about the right length in arms/torso...maybe a little tighter than I'd like.

No fog on the hikes

Smith Phenom Turbo Fan Goggle

Smith Phenom Turbo Fan Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 March 2, 2009

I've always had a problem with my goggles fogging up when hiking...I was a little skeptical about this fan system, but it actually works great and is very small so it stays out of the way. It is pretty loud on the high setting to the point where I've had people on the chair ask me what that buzzing noise is. The low setting does the job and is quiet- you just need to remember to turn it off at the end of the day or you will run down the batteries. Overall, great goggle.

Smith Phenom Turbo Fan Goggle

February 28, 2009

I have the new version and the switch is still really small and can't be turned on/off while wearing gloves, but you can slide from high to low speed with gloves on.

Great taste, big

ProBar Super Food Slam - Box of 12

ProBar Super Food Slam - Box of 12

Rating for this product: 5 November 13, 2008

These bars taste great and are packed with healthy, natural ingredients. They are about 2X as expensive as some of the other all-natural premium bars out there, but they are also 2X as big. Big/filling enough to serve as lunch when on the go.

Very/Too Puffy- size down

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero Down Vest - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero Down Vest - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 November 12, 2008

I've always loved Mountain Hardware gear, but this is the first piece I've owned that I'm mixed on. It is well-made and warm, but it fits me like a life preserver (I'm 6'/170 lbs. and have a Large). Almost too bulky to wear under a shell. Personally, I'd size down one or consider a lower-profile option like the Patagonia Down Sweater Vest.

Scott P4 Alpine Ski

November 11, 2008

Has anyone compared this to the Volkl Gotama?...similar dimensions on the 181cm. I've skied the Gotamas for a few years and am on the fence in terms of getting new pair vs. switching to the p4s.

Good, lightweight jacket

Marmot PreCip Jacket - Men's

Marmot PreCip Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 6, 2008

Overall, this is a good, lightweight jacket that packs well and is not too expensive. It would not be my first choice in heavy rain as it does soak through after awhile. I've also found that it does not breathe as well as some other shells that I've used. I use it as a packable layer to stuff in my fishing vest or Camelback when on the river or on a ride/hike.

These are my new favorite socks- bumped Smartwool off the top...they hold up better after multiple trips through the wash/dryer and they do a good job of keeping your feet dry.

perfect all-around pullover

Patagonia R1 Flash Fleece Pullover - Mens

Patagonia R1 Flash Fleece Pullover - Mens

Rating for this product: 5 September 25, 2008

I've got this in the hooded and unhooded version and I love them both. The unhooded is a little more versatile and gets a lot of use- great layer for skiiing or other snow sports in the winter, or over a t-shirt in fall/spring for trail running, mtn biking, etc...I take mine everywhere I travel and sleep in it 30% of the year. Chest pocket is a great feature for keeping things organized.

great trail running/mtn biking sock

SmartWool Adrenaline Ultra Light Mini Sock

SmartWool Adrenaline Ultra Light Mini Sock

Rating for this product: 4 September 25, 2008

I've been using these for running/mtn biking for about a year now- they do a great job of keeping your feet feeling dry, and they don't itch (I thought they might b/c they are wool). They do get kind of banged-up if you don't wash them inside out, but it's not a big deal.

great all-around binding

Marker Duke Ski Binding

Marker Duke Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 4 September 25, 2008

I've got these mounted on some 183 Gotamas and love them. They are great at the resort and in the backcountry. I did not notice the weight as much as some other reviewers, but agree that it's less than ideal to need to remove ski to lock (only downside). I didn't have any issues with icing-up when switching to the lock position. Overall, a good, solid binding.

Rating for this product: 5 September 25, 2008

I've got these in the 183 and ski them 70% of the time...perfect all-mountain/all-condition ski...great in powder, but can also do a good job in crud and on groomers. Have them paired with Marker Duke's- great backcountry set-up.

warm, dry, durable

Marmot Ultimate Ski Glove

Marmot Ultimate Ski Glove

Rating for this product: 5 September 25, 2008

I've had these for 2 seasons and love them. Very warm, great for big powder days (deep bib w/good closure), and the palms are more durable than any other glove I've used- I usually go through 1-2 pairs per season as I ski the Snowbird tram most days and constantly holding your skis in line can throw your gloves a beating. These hold-up well.

CamelBak M.U.L.E. Hydration Pack -3L

Rating for this product: 5 September 25, 2008

I've used the M.U.L.E. for mountain biking and hiking for 3 years and it has always served me well. Perfect size to hold enough food, gear for a 3-4 hour ride, but not big/bulky. Would not change a thing on it.

Marmot Urban Hauler Bag

Marmot Urban Hauler Bag

Rating for this product: 5 September 8, 2008

This is the perfect all-around bag. I use it daily for trips to gym, farmers market, picnics, etc. I initially thought that the open design at the top might let in rain/snow, but it's a non-issue as the bag closes at the top once you have it on. Super light and nice design. I'm a huge fan.
