Great Alpine Pack

Arc'teryx Cierzo 35 Backpack - 2136cu in

Arc'teryx Cierzo 35 Backpack - 2136cu in

Rating for this product: 4 November 7, 2008

I have been looking for a pack that would do what the Cierzo does for a long time. It is a light weight alpine pack designed to be carried in a big pack on the approach, then pulled out for the climb. I've had two other lightweight packs that were most uncomfortable when water and photography equipment were added to parka and clothes. This pack's suspension system, even though it's minimalist, works adequately. The slot for the foam pad doubles as a hydration sleeve. The zippers are water tight. My stuff in this pack didn't get wet in a thunderstorm on the South Sister.

The North Face Freedom Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 September 16, 2008

I concur with the above review, except for one aspect. These are definitely alpine ski pants. They are not suitable for randonee skiing.
The side zippers do not extend to the bottom of the pant. They are for ventilation only. Ergo, you cannot put the pants on or take them off wearing boots.
That's why I returned them.

Arc'teryx Khamski Backpack - 2500-2870cu in

May 5, 2008

I've got an ancient Dana Design Bomb pack (3200 cu. in.) that I want to replace. It doesn't have a hydration sleeve, isn't water proof and doesn't have a shovel pocket.I've narrowed my choices down to the Arc'Teryx Khamski and Borea. What do you think?
