So cozy, so well made

Western Mountaineering Versalite Sleeping Bag: 10 Degree Down

Western Mountaineering Versalite Sleeping Bag: 10 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 April 17, 2012

This is a fantastic sleeping bag. It's incredibly light, quite warm, and very well made. It's slightly roomier than the WM Ultralite (though still slim-fit), and noticeably warmer.

I sleep cold, and found this bag very comfy well down into the 30's. For the night when it got down into the high teens, I needed 2 layers, but was comfortable.

Keep in mind that it is an ultralight bag, and as such, the fabric is thinner and lighter, and should be handled with care.

Great all-around tent

Marmot Earlylight Tent with Footprint and Gear Loft: 2-Person 3-Season

Marmot Earlylight Tent with Footprint and Gear Loft: 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 April 12, 2011

A fairly simple, well-designed tent at a great price. It's pretty easy to set up, nice space inside for a backpacking tent, and it's very sturdy and waterproof. Definitely 3+ seasons. It's really well-made, and a good value, comes with footprint and gear loft (most brands make you buy those separately.)

My friend and I lived in it for 9 days while exploring Yellowstone and backpacking the Grand Teton Crest trail. We found it very comfy for 2 people. Having 2 doors is worth the extra couple of ounces, and the vestibules are fabulous - easy to get in and out even with all your gear under there. The tent breathes well, had minimal condensation, though in cold weather that little window does fog up. I've been through several storms in this tent, and very happy with it.

I've been guiding wilderness trips for more than a decade, and I highly recommend this tent for beginners through very experienced folks. It's not the lightest thing on the market, but when I want to go light I take a tarp instead. This is great for trips when the weather will be nasty, or I'm taking a less experienced friend and not going far, or for car camping.
