The North Face Plasma Thermal Jacket - Men's

The North Face Plasma Thermal Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 6, 2009

Outstanding jacket and loaded with features. Two way front zipper for excellent temp regulation. When im moving in this jacket and things heat up I bring up the zipper from the bottom and the jacket stays snug around the body and vents super. This is a feature found on some high output jackets for running and cycling and it works great, sure wish more jackets had this. Pit zips are very long and cover just above elbow and go all the way to bottom of rib cage, and they have 2 way zippers as well, A+. Primaloft insulation is lightweight, breathable, very packable and quite warm. Jacket is waterproof and is fully seam taped. So not only will you stay completly dry in the snow but the rain as well. Hyvent Alpha is breathable so it does a good job of letting out your persperation so you dont get sweaty and feel like your in a sauna, and it is also very abrasion resistant. Pockets are great, their is pleanty of them and they are not popping out noticable when you carry something in them like on some jackets. Hood is very effective and does not get in the way. There is an extra stitch put in the elbows to give you unrestricted movement. This works very well and no matter how much you move your arms in this jacket it does not get tight on you. I have snowblowed my drive way in this jacket with just a tee shirt on under in 10 degree weather and i was very comfy. Like another reviewer said this jacket is very compressable. Put in a stuff sack and shrink it down to a football. This is one Northface jacket I have nothing neg to comment on. Just outstanding.

The Real Deal

The North Face Pamir WindStopper Jacket - Men's

The North Face Pamir WindStopper Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 22, 2008

Windstopper has a reputation as a leading tech fabric. Its strength is lightweight, total windproof, and breathable. All this creates a garment with near perfect comfort. Now owning this jacket for some time and getting a chance to use it hard in a variety of conditions I can vogue for all of these claims. I knew windstopper was some good stuff but i was a little questionable to its Breathability since it is totally windproof. I have found out that it is in fact very breathable and does a outstanding job of keeping you warm and dry, better than any other product i have ever used. Compared to the Windwall 2 jacket this one is more fitted, totally windproof, very breathable, and has abrasion fabric on shoulders upper back and chest and down arms that is water resistant. This jacket will allow for a mid weight base layer and a 100 weight fleece layered under where the windwall 2 is quite baggy and will leave you enough room for another jacket layered under, too much room in my opinion. With all the added benefits this jacket is vastly superior to the windwall 2, especially for the price diff. My bottom line- This jacket is the bomb, get it and be in love. A true 5 star North face product.

Light weight warmth

The North Face Redpoint Insulated Jacket - Men's

The North Face Redpoint Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 17, 2008

Good synthetic insulations pack a good deal of warmth with minimal weight. This is accurate to say for the RedPoint jacket. There are many other bulkier warmer insulated jackets out there but for the weight and size this jacket boosts very good warmth. I dont know of any fleece that can match the warmth to weight of this jacket. The best wind resistant/ proof fleeces come close but I do not think they surpass. The DWR coating is effective and gives confidence in any snow condition and light rain outings. Zippers and pockets are all good. Fit is accurate and leaves room for light to mid layering under, and a shell fits fine over, no issues here. Adj at waits let you sinch down. another great benefit of this jacket is its compressablity. It will fold up and tuck in to its chest pocket making it as packable as a 100 weight fleece. There are few neg about this jacket. My dislikes are the lack of any lining around the collar. comfort is subtracted here. a two way zipper would be an improvement, as would pit zips. This jacket is pretty much windproof and for this it does not breath that well. also this jacket is not stretchable at all so it does give up points here to a fleece as well as the breathability. the only other dislike is this jacket is like a shell on the inside same material as outer, so if you are wearing a tee shirt and sweat you stick to it like you would a shell. if breathability and flexability are not your first concerns you will be well suited by the Redpoint jacket.
