Nice Single Rope

Petzl Zephyr Climbing Rope

Rating for this product: 4 July 12, 2009

The mid markings and the warning markings on each end makes this rope really nice and convienent. I have the 60m length. It is a bit heavy but seems quite durable. The dynamic properties of the rope are very apparent when you rapelle down from any cliffs. I haven't had to use the dynamic properties due to a slip or fall as we still top rope when we climb.

I chose this rope with the intentions to start lead climbing and it's all-around potential with the duratec coating. Also, the diameter of the rope makes belaying and rappelling possible without gloves.

MSR Lightning Ascent Snowshoe

MSR Lightning Ascent Snowshoe

Rating for this product: 4 December 29, 2008

Took them out Christmas week to snowshoe Winner Creek trail in Girdwood, AK. This is a five mile round trip hike to the gorge and back. We did both on trail and off trail hiking. The snow shoes provided excellent traction on icy grades. Flotation suffers slightly due to the shoes being relatively narrow. Keep in mind that I am six feet plus and with my pack on I'm weighing in at about 215 pounds. I didn't hike anything steep enough that required me to use the ascent bar yet. I wouldn't trade them for another style unless I was doing all deep powder where I expect significant air pockets in the terrain. In my opinion, I don't think anything will help with air pockets. The other or standard style of snowshoes did have better flotation, but my wife was more prone to sliding down little hills where I step down the sides. The bindings are huge and I believe they can accommodate snowboard boots if I tried. My rank of 4 out of 5 is due to the compromise in flotation and the straps can be a little cumbersome to hook in. I would recommend these if you are expecting to traverse varying terrain.

My daily carry knife

SOG Knives Trident Knife

SOG Knives Trident Knife

Rating for this product: 5 September 26, 2008

I bought this knife for daily carry and adventure races. I like the spring loaded assist and the mechanical safety for when I do not anticipate needing the knife in a quick defensive manner. It is extremely light weight, sharp, and fairly well constructed. The cord cut capability without opening the blade is excellent for use with 550 cord. I recommend this knife if you are in the market for a mid price knife that will see field work. I like knives with both standard and serrate blades. For me, this is the best of both worlds.

2nd Belay Device

Black Diamond ATC Guide

Black Diamond ATC Guide

Rating for this product: 5 September 26, 2008

I got this one for belaying my partner when they are stuck resting on a difficult route in the gym. This way I don't have to hold the rope as tight with my basic Black Diamond belay / rapelle device.

Light weight and Warm

The North Face Nuptse Jacket - Men's

The North Face Nuptse Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 12, 2007

I am satisfied with the performance of this jacket. It will keep me warm when the mercury drops below zero. It also zips into The North Face shell jackets, but this becomes a bulky combination. Bottom line, the warmth to weight ratio is excellent.

Looks feminine and it's actually warm

The North Face Furallure Jacket - Women's

The North Face Furallure Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 12, 2007

I bought this jacket for my wife as a surprise gift. She loves the jacket. It is very feminine (show curves) and it keeps her WARM. It has a decent wind / weatherproof exterior shell to protect from the elements. In my opinion the jacket is a little short, but I guess that is the style for women.

Versatility for your feet.

K2 Raider Boa Snowboard Boot - Men's

K2 Raider Boa Snowboard Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 27, 2006

This is my first snowboard boot. The boots are versatile because if I go for downhill speed, I just tighten the boots with a few twists. If I want to catch some air, I can loosen them with the press of a button. I can't imagine having the old school lace up system.

Before start of season

K2 Raider Boa Snowboard Boot - Men's

K2 Raider Boa Snowboard Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 9, 2005

I bought the boots before the season and they fit well. I haven't had a chance to use them on the slopes yet. Hopefully I can post later to give everyone an update. However I do like the BOA system for quick lace purposes. The boots seem to be extremely supportive and I am happy they carry size 14. Not all borders are small people. Big ups to K2. I can adjust the tension for support based on the type of terrain I plan to hit with a couple clicks or turns of the dial. Right now, I have no reason to give less than a five because the boots have met my expectations thus far.

In milder climates this is all you need: lightweight and very stylish. Perfect for layering when skiing or great alone for some snow play without the added bulk.
