Salomon Czar Ski

February 10, 2010

got or czar? Probably depends on what you want it for. I've got the Czar and have skied the Got. If you plan on using the ski for more soft snow, powder skiing, then the Czar would be my choice. The Got would be my choice if I were looking for something more resort oriented and some occasional powder. But like Jamie, I'd go with the Barons over the Dukes for your size and weight.

Black Diamond O1 Telemark Ski Binding DO NO TUSE

Black Diamond O1 Telemark Ski Binding DO NO TUSE

Rating for this product: 5 May 6, 2009

So as we come to the end of another season, I wanted to write up a review on my favorite piece of telemark equipment. My boots make me happy and my skis bring a smile to my face but it's these bindings that make the package. In three seasons of using them on a number of different skis, I have come to really appreciate these bindings, they have performed nearly flawlessly with only one minor icing under the binding issue once while touring in conditions that would have created similar problems in any other touring binding. I've used them for resort days, dawn patrols, yo-yoing, multi-day trips, and everything else and I have to say they're great.

I'm 5'11", 150# and ski with T1 and the rid stiffs. The thing I like about the rid stiffs is that it forces me to ski that both skis. If I get lazy and poodle the back ski, I pay for it. But when I'm skiing that both skis, the bindings give me great feel, good edge control and great power over the ski in the powder, crud and groomers.

If you want a great skiing tele binding that will handle all you throw at it, don't hesitate with the O1.

Czar - versatile wasatch midfat

Salomon Czar Ski

Salomon Czar Ski

Rating for this product: 5 March 11, 2009

Bought the Czar in December and have been very stoked with this ski. I'm 5'11" 150 lbs and I went with the 182. I mounted BD O1's on them and ski them with T1's. I bought this as my midfat and as a ski to tour with. In comparison to my Prophet 130's they are obviously a lot lighter and easier to tour with, but not as much float. So for the big days I still prefer my 130's but for everything else, I'll take the Czars. The tip rocker performs as advertised and give you good float and the ability to turn on a dime, but these skis aren't afraid of making super G turns either. They do their job on the groomers. The conventional camber and sidecut makes them ski fine on the groomers, although the tip will flap around a bit. But I didn't buy them so I could ski groomers. Overall, I'm happy with this ski. It does exactly what I wanted it to do - skis the powder and crud well and is a lot more pleasant to tour with than my 130's.
