Great Tent

Marmot Zonda 2-Person 3-Season Tent

Marmot Zonda 2-Person 3-Season Tent

Rating for this product: 5 April 7, 2010

I don't understand the poor reviews of this tent. It obviously isn't a big seller as the aurora seems to have taken its place among marmot 2p tents on most reseller sites, but I've owned this for two years now on numerous backpacking excursions in the middle of nowhere and have never had a problem. The rainfly attaches easily and keeps me dry. There's plenty of room for two inside the tent, along with a decent amount of gear. If you go buying a tent for two people, don't plan on having all of your gear inside of it anway. That's what pack covers are for.

Good Warm Boots

KEEN Summit County Winter Boot - Men's

KEEN Summit County Winter Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 27, 2010

I was a little suspicious when I received these boots and first examined them. The leather at the base of the boots seemed somewhat thin and I wondered whether it was adhered properly to the rubber. Then I tried them on and stepped into a bathtub with about four or five inches of water in it, sloshed about and tried to mimick walking for several minutes. Not a drop entered the interrior of the boot. The fact that the water in the tub was extremely cold was not felt at all by my feet.

On top of this, the boots are extremely comfortable, if a bit on the bulky side. I have somewhat wide feet, and these were a much more comfortable fit than a pair of winter Asolos I returned the previous week. They come on and off very easily, and the laces 'stick' and don't come undone. This was my first Keen boot purchase and I can say that as long as these hold up the remainder of the winter (I live in Buffalo, NY and have been wearing them consistently for over a month), I'll keep this brand in mind when shopping for footware again. For what I've received, I think the price is also extremely reasonable.

By the way, I usually wear about a 10 1/2 to 11 in a regular shoe size, bought 11 1/2 in these and they fit perfectly.

Great Bag

Marmot Hydrogen Sleeping Bag: 30 Degree Down

Marmot Hydrogen Sleeping Bag: 30 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 May 19, 2008

I had originally purchased a Western Mountaineering 30 degree bag but returned it as it was rather small in the shoulders. That bag also seemed to sacrifice a lot in terms of durability to save on weight. The Marmot Hydrogen bag is the perfect balance between weight, compressibility, warmth and comfort. The long version still packs down to something just a bit larger than a nalgene, and the weight is negligible. I have plenty of room to roll around in it and it has already held up well in Buffalo, NY early spring, which is none too warm at times (temps around 35-40 F at night). I have the sense that this bag would do well even below the 30 F rating.

I've used a lot of bags meant for cool to warmer nights and this is by far the best I've seen.
