Big Agnes Storm King Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down

June 9, 2008

How big is big?? This is quite large. So large that unless Big Agnes puts 800 down into to replace its 24 oz 650 fill down it won't sustain you in 0 weather when inside a tent. You need the Yampa 40 to stay warm in 0. Trust me. This is a +20 bag--but large enough for a guy who wears size 36" pants legs and has 34" sleeve length.

The North Face Bullfrog 23 2-Person 3-Season

March 30, 2008

Why is the smaller Bullfrog 23 at "23 s.f." more expensive than the Tadpole 23 at "35 s.f."? Weight difference shows the Bullfrog is lighter by 2 oz and uses the same fabrics: 40D 240T canopy, 33D 244T fly, 79D 210T floor. Does the Bullfrog simply have less mesh and more tent solid body for 4-season warmth?

The North Face Tadpole 23 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

March 30, 2008

I placed an order with REI yesterday for the TADPOLE 23. Their info shows up a little different from yours. You say the tent is 35 s.f. against their 27 s.f. You show its weight as 4.25# and REI shows it as 4.9# and "minimum" weight as 4.25#. (I find that tents are usually more than "packages weight" on my back, especially with the footprint too.) How long is this tent? REI shows it as only 87" which max's out for a couple of your 6'3" reviewers. I too am 6'3".None of the reviews states one can eliminate weight by eliminating the tent body to instead set up poles, footprint and fly for the warmer nights of camping and for ultralight packing. Is this an option? If so, how does the arithmetic work to lighten the load and is it recommended for windy nights?
