Great mattress for car camping

ALPS Mountaineering Lightweight Series Air Pad

ALPS Mountaineering Lightweight Series Air Pad

Rating for this product: 4 August 5, 2010

A bit heavy for backpacking use, but much more comfortable than my lighter weight backpacking pad as well.
We use these for car camping trips instead of the two twin sized coleman air mattress that we used to lug around. The old air mattresses required a blower to air up, a big enough space for a kingsized bed, and often left us on the ground if they got a pinhole or the night got sufficiently cold. These sleeping pads however, air up by leaving the valves open for a few minutes, then topping them off with a few puffs of air. You can overlap them if the available space demands it AND once you close the valve after topping off, we've had no trouble with deflating overnight. These also work great for when the kids have a sleepover and want to crash in the basement with their friends... :)

Awesome camp chair - keep it handy!

ALPS Mountaineering Weekender Camp Seat

ALPS Mountaineering Weekender Camp Seat

Rating for this product: 5 August 5, 2010

We started with two of these but had to order one for everybody in the family to end the arguments over who got to use them. These seats are SO MUCH better than your average collapsable tubes & nylon fold up chairs: very compact (we keep ours in the car all summer long), lightweight, and easy for one of the kids to carry seats for the whole family.

We've used them at the drive-in movie, watching fireworks, and of course around the campfire...

The down-at-ground-level design is nice for keeping you below the smoke even when the wind blows your way and keeps them very stable on uneven ground that could give the other style camp chairs stability issues.

Probably wouldn't put it in my pack on a backpacking trip strictly because I tend to pack too much stuff anyway, but this chair is a shoo-in for any car camping, stadium sitting, or other outdoor activity.

Nice durable water bag

MSR Dromlite Bags

MSR Dromlite Bags

Rating for this product: 5 March 26, 2010

Got the 4L size which is more than I'd want to carry around all day, but it is great for filling up at the last water source before camp. Holds plenty for dinner, a bit of washing up, and breakfast the next morning. The standard size opening fits my MSR Hyperflow filter perfectly and the small spout in the cap is handy for filling pots & cups without spilling. The Cordura type material just seems much less susceptable to puncture than a standard platypus or camelbak bladder.

Strange fit...

The North Face Horizon Convertible Pant - Men's

The North Face Horizon Convertible Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 March 19, 2010

The length was good and the materials/construction seems to be what one would expect from TNF, but these pants had such an odd fit that I returned them. They fit like I expected from about mid-thigh and down, but from the mid-thigh up to just below the waistband, they were super-tight across the front. Everything felt fine in the back, but they were almost obscene up front.
