Keeping Friends...

Black Diamond Raven Ice Axe

Black Diamond Raven Ice Axe

Rating for this product: 5 January 28, 2009

I bought two of these for gifts for my friends. And today, I am thankful to still have two friends. Why? Because it was an inexpensive way to buy friends while making it look like I spent a lot of money on them, and without having to pay them cash directly for their friendship. Yes, I buy my friends.

As for the axe, I like it better than my Camp axe. Durable, lightweight, and it does the job to bring you home safetly to enjoy a nice cold brew.

Rating for this product: 5 November 7, 2008

They are well established not only in their name, but in their use in the field. It is hard to go wrong with a set of these. Don't be surprised if you see just about everyone at the crag owning a set. rockclimbing.com and mountainproject.com are great places to go for in-depth reviews! And Backcountry.com is the place to go to buy them (Great Customer Service and Discounts/Sales).

Black Diamond Momentum Speed Adjust Harness - Men's

Black Diamond Momentum Speed Adjust Harness - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 7, 2008

The Speed Adjust, I think, is worth the price. Why? It is quick to get the harness on and tightened up, whereas the regular can be a hassle to double back (but always make sure you know how to double-back when securing your harness, obviously). Also, the leg straps are symetrical (a good thing), whereas some harnesses have one way over on your leg and the other right in the middle after you tighten the harness. Hopefully that makes sense.

Worth it.

La Sportiva Venom Climbing Shoe

La Sportiva Venom Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 November 7, 2008

I wear a street shoe size of 10.5 (US) and a climbing shoe size of 9-9.5 (42.5). They were very tight at first, but have broken in now. I enjoy them tight though, so I can feel the rock. They have superb traction, tight fit all around the toes, and the double loops on the back are great for helping slip them off and on.

As with most slippers, you will notice a if your feet are sweaty since your foot will move around inside and you cannot tighten them more. However, the elastic in the Venoms keep them snug. Great shoe!

Decent shoe, Great Price.

Evolv Defy Climbing Shoe

Evolv Defy Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 4 November 7, 2008

I previously owned a pair of these for about 1 year before wearing through the toe. Not too bad for how much I used them. The fit was great, the velcro straps are perfect length (unlike some other velcro shoes) so they don't flap around, and the rubber was like fly paper.

I loved these shoes, except for one thing. Because they are organic, they hold odor much more than leather. After a period of time, the smell was unbearable (but at least it kept people away from my route). Evolv has addressed the issue, and continues to look for ways to be safe to the environment and stop the odor.

Light and breathable.

CAMP USA High Star Climbing Helmet

CAMP USA High Star Climbing Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 November 7, 2008

This helmet does not have the EPS foam, but uses the shell of the helmet and internally suspended webbing. For me, this is what I was looking for. It is safe, light, and breathable.

Hold headlamps, easily adjustable chin strap with padding, and protects my head when I go on head-banging expeditions and rock concerts.

Amazing

Backcountry.com Wool Hooded Jacket - Men's

Backcountry.com Wool Hooded Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 4, 2008

I am 5'10-11", ~165 lbs, and I purchased a Medium. Definitely an athletic fit, with longer sleeves. If it were to shrink, it would be bad, but I think a Large would be too big. SO, it is a perfect, athletic fit for my size and weight. Basically, I love the jacket, and have received numerous compliments on it. I live in MN, and it is keeping me warm!

Sweet!

Outdoor Research Megaplume Down Jacket - Men's

Outdoor Research Megaplume Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 4, 2008

This jacket is sweet, as in diabetic sweet.

I am 5'10-11", ~165 lbs, and I ordered the large and it fits great! It has enough room for me to wear layers underneath in ultra cold northern Minnesota, and waterproof enough for me to jump in the cold shower with. It has plenty of pockets, and the hood has room for me to keep my climbing helmet on. All in all, I am very happy with this jacket.
