I'm 5 ft 11 in and I use a 65 or 70. In general, you want an ice axe that, when you hold it at your side with your arm straight, stops a little bit above your ankle. If you plan on going up steep slopes, you'll want the axe to be a few cm shorter than that. This only applies if you're going to use the axe as a cane.
If you plan on using it on very steep slopes where you're going to swing it over your head, you'll want a significantly shorter tool. The standard length for technical tools is closer to 50 cm. If that's what you plan on doing, a 57 cm Venom might serve you pretty well.

You're correct that the D rings are the attachment points. The easiest thing to do would be to us a couple lengths of paracord, run them through the crampons and tie the ends off in the D rings. However, if you're going high enough that you won't want to take your gloves off, then just use webbing. Tie one end of the webbing into one D ring, run it through the crampons, go through the other D ring, and buckle it.

It can be done, but I've always avoided using the integrated stuff sacks in jackets. You increase the chances of tearing a seam by stuffing a jacket into one of its own pockets. For $6, go buy yourself a Granite Gear stuff sack. It's light, strong, and will be a much better choice than the integrated pocket.

It should get pretty small and if it doesn't come with a suitable stuff sack, you can get an excellent one from granite gear for about six bucks. 25 psi= 25 pounds per square inch. It's a pressure rating. 25 is considered "fully waterproof". Ks of waterproofing is the number of millimeters of rainfall that the jacket could take in a 24 hour period before soaking through. The jackets that are selling for $100 are the '09 model. The discounted ones (discontinued colors) are all '08. Not much difference except color and $30.

Based on your height, I would go with a large. It may be a little roomy but the sleeve length should be right on. Hope this helps!*************I'm 5'9" 140 and I can wear the medium with a skintight baselayer, thin softshell vest, and fleece underneath. However, I can't fit anything else under it and it feels kinda packed. You definitely want a large. It has an athletic cut so you won't swim in it.

Well it's really a matter of preference. If it were me, I'd go with the 163 because I prefer a little shorter board. Either one will be fine though and you probably won't even notice a difference because one would be 1cm longer, and the other 2cm shorter. That's not much. The longer board will be smoother and more stable at high speeds, while the shorter one will be easier to control. Backcountry's general sizing reccomendation puts you anywhere from a 161 to a 166. So the 163 would obviously be much closer to the middle, while the 166 would be getting close to the longest you would even want to consider. My opinion, the 163.The 163 is easier to control and would be better for the park. It sounds like you stay out of the terrain park, so the 166 will let you go faster and is more suited to someone your size. I'd go with a 166.

With a liner it will certainly help. A lot depends on how you tolerate the cold. Some do better than others. I'd say with a liner, assuming you don't get them wet and it's not super windy out, you should be able to withstand most temps. But remember these aren't made for the super cold days, so when it dips down well below freezing, you're probably going to start to notice.**************************EDIT: These are park gloves. The point is that you get a low profile glove for warm days and then have a different glove for colder days on hte mountain. My advice is to get a good glove with removable liners and use the liners alone when it gets warm out.

Assuming you don't ride when the temps drop below freezing these should work pretty good, especially considering that it sounds like you don't wear any gloves at all currently. My dad is 6' 155. He usually needs a medium or large in outdoor gear. I think an XL would be really baggy. Since MH runs a bit small, I would go with a Large. You get free shipping on this jacket so if it doesn't fit, exchange it for a different size.

The regular half jacket lenses have a flatter, straight side on the bottom and outside edge. The half jacket XLJ lenses have a concave, more curved bottom to them. The same goes for the outside edge of the lens for the XLJs. They have a curve in them toward the bottom while the regular half jacket lenses don't.EDIT: The XLJs have this funky extra bump on the outside lower edge. The regular Half Jackets look much cooler, the aesthetics are much better.

Nope, that black fabric will absorb so much heat in the unprotected sunlight that the moon has that it'll probably melt, or at least burn your feet. Not to mention that the side facing away from the sun will freeze and, since there's no air, not insulate your freezing/burning feet. The rubber will be alternately brittle and molten. You will have no fun.

You won't be able to do near then things with this board as you will with a traditional snowboard. You just can't hold an edge nearly as well if your feet aren't attached. If you really are interested in this, I would pick up normal snowboarding also and just use this board in deep powder. You know how much harder it is to get off the lift since you aren't strapped in? This board will be like that all the time. It'll be mostly useless on groomed runs. Might also check with local resorts and see if you can even take it up with you. ****************************Stick with it and stay on a real snowboard, it's way better than skiing. Go to a local mountain and take a lesson or two, it'll help a lot. Regardless, you don't want this thing, it's harder to use than a normal board.

As a stamd alone probably not, however this would make a great base layer under one of those bulky spaceman suits. The Vagabond would block wind (not solar winds, of course) and offer some protection against any liquid rain you could find. However, I recommend a space suit underneath to prevent violent decompression, freezing (you'll be close to absolute zero), and the most severe sunburn that you've ever experienced (It'll be 3rd degree everywhere), as well as the cuts caused by the space dust ore ice particles that bombard you. But seriously, no.

These shoes are designed with extra cushioning, so I don't think more padding will help. First question: have you recently started running or suddenly increased your mileage? If so, back off the miles a bit and let your body catch up. If that isn't the case, keep reading. Have you owned similar shoes previously? It is possible that these don't fit your foot properly. Are you running on pavement? The pavement is very unforgiving on your feet and joints. If this is it, try getting some trail runs in or do cross training a few times a week (bike or swim instead of running). Or, if this is a problem you had before using these shoes, it might be time to see a doctor.

They appear very wide and deep. They shouldn't push the glasses into your face. The design is such that the only contact is on the side of your face where the foam forms to the frame of the glasses. Oakley is good at making performance eyewear, these should be no exception.

Depends on what you already have. Just make sure you've got a bright light option (almost any of the iridium lenses) and a low light option (most types of yellow or persimmon). If you like to micromanage your lenses, get a lens for days in the middle (Bronze, G30, G26, VR28 etc). Hope this helps.

They should be. These are helmet compatible and Giro helmets are compatible with most goggles (at least in my experience). It would be senseless for their "helmet compatible" goggles to be incompatible with their own helmet.

Well, one reviewer said that the L/XL fits him perfectly and he is a 10.5. Larges usually fit 9-11 or so and medium is around 6-8. However, Pearl Izumi fits 5-8 as small, 9-11 medium, and 12+ as large.

All-Mountain boards are general purpose boards. They do it all. Freestyle boards however, are specific to terrain parks. They are what you want if you spend your time in pipes or on rails or boxes. The board won't make you better, but if you're pretty decent and you want to be able to really rip, get the freestyle board. If you like hitting jumps and carving on the main slopes, get the all-mountian one. Also keep size in mind when you buy. When you buy a freestyle board in the right size, it will be shorter than a properly sized all-mountian board.

The various lenses are explained in the sizing chart. Of the ones currently in stock, the Black Iridium lens is the darkest at 10% VLT. The Gold Iridium is next at 12%, and the other two are both in the 25-30 range.*****If you want even lower transmission than that, buy yourself a set of replacement lenses in Ice, Black, or Gold Iridium Polarized. Those three have transmission rates of 9%.

Not a question, but just wanted to add to my review of the Elixir. I used it as a baselayer under my softshell while hiking Mount Katahdin in the rain and it worked really well both under the jacket and on its own. The fabric is comfortable against bare skin and it stayed dry even though my shell had soaked through. Also Angus, that isn't exactly an answer.

Yes. Fleece throughout, thin spandex extensions with thumb holes in the sleeves, and some other fabric in between the shell and the fleece. It's pretty warm, but if that's not enough, there are zippers inside so you can zip in another jacekt, my REI LT Thermo is compatible, and just about any jacket with a standard smallish zipper should be too. Also, it is rated 10k for waterproofing and breathability.

My dad uses an REI Lookout. It's a little over 2000 cubes and has a big U shaped zip so you can basically unzip and flip off the back panel. He likes it a lot. I'm a fan of Osprey packs though. How much gear are you planning on taking? It makes a big difference if you're just doing some dayhiking or if you're bringing a tent and sleeping bag and whatnot. How much camping/outdoor time are you planning on?

1850 cubes is a big pack. I'm in college and I don't need that much room in my daypack. I would not recommend the Jester for a child. It's a good daypack, but it is sized for adults. There are a lot of good small daypacks (under 1000 cubes) and they would be a better fit for a small child.

Different brands are different. According to the La Sportiva chart, a US 10 translates to a Euro 43.2. But Salomon says 44=US 10, Patagonia calls it a 43.0, and Vasque had it at 44.5. So anywhere in the 43-44 range should fit you.If you want a 10, get the 43.5s, they're available right now.
