  • Stomping Grounds:

    Playground: Colorado. Rocky Mtn High!
  • Bio:

Very petite, lean and mean (lol) female. Reside in Wheeling, WV. Yes, it is on the map. Married to a WONDERFUL man (15 years almost!). Two large cats. What keeps me motivated, alive, driven, and wanting more out of life in addition to my hubby and felines is altitude. I LOVE the Mountains. Climbing, backpacking, hiking, survival, camping (esp. Winter!), rock climbing, running, gear and gadgets...are a few of my favorite things. Have hiked and climbed in Glacier NP and Colorado. Climbing Mt. Hood in June. Mt. Elbert in July. I hope someday (in 5 years!) to get to Everest. Talus Outdoortech doing a story line on me. Pretty exciting for an amatuer.

Jetboil Classic Personal Cooking System

Jetboil Classic Personal Cooking System

Rating for this product: 5 July 27, 2009

I have a Primus cooking system and though I like it, it is big and bulky. Not good if you are trekking and camping and need the extra room in your pack or if you want to reduce some weight. The jetboil is perfect for this and performs very well. If only my Glock subcompact was a light as the jetboil :).

Excellent!

Outdoor Research Crocodiles Gaiter - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 July 27, 2009

I used these to climb Mt. Elbert in Colorado. Went through so rough terrain and these babies toughed it out. I really truly put them to use on that mountain. I own another pair of a different brand that made it only a year with my trekking and climbing. I am happy to know that the OR gaiters will last a long time. I knew they were pretty tough after what I put them through recently. Ahh, this is only the beginning of a long lasting relationship I believe...

Never leave home..

JanSport Klamath 55 Backpack - 3300cu in

Rating for this product: 5 July 27, 2009

Without my Jansport! I own 3 jansport packs: a small daypack, the 55 Klamath, and the 68 Klamath. I borrowed the 55 for my Mt. Hood climb and had to buy one for myself - just to have for such situations when the 68 was a big too big. Used my 68 for Mt. Elbert in Colorado (pic shown). Jansport proves time and time again that comfort is priority. I have carried anywhere from 25-40 pounds in the 55 and 68 and had no issues. Easy to adjust, very durable, roomy and just comfortable all around. My pack for sure! Anywhere from a day trip to weekender camp/climb, to week long camping/climbing trip, I never leave home without my jansport.

Not what I expected

Osprey Packs Ariel 65 Backpack - Women's - 3800-4200cu in

Osprey Packs Ariel 65 Backpack - Women's - 3800-4200cu in

Rating for this product: 1 March 17, 2009

BIG HUGE PLUS with buying from Backcountry - I returned this thing, they promptly refunded. No questions asked. Live up to their refund promises. That combined with superior customer service definitely will keep me buying from them!!!

Now about this nightmare of a pack:
If I am uncomfortable, I slow down. Not good in a number of outdoor situations. This pack in uncomfortable all around. I am 5'4" petite female. I am narrow in my shoulder girdle. That being said, I could never get this adjusted right. I even went to see experts for help. The response was the same: You're too narrow. I would adjust the sternum strap where I was comfortable hauling a 40# load. However, adjusting the sternum strap just where I wanted it resulted in the shoulder straps being pulled too inwardly which either gave me great 'lift' (lol) or would rub my clavicles raw. Thus, I could never adjust that part of the bag just right enough and was left in pain and/or blistered. I truly hated this pack and returned after 5 major hikes and realized it wasn't breaking it. Only good thing: When my water bottle leaked, nothing inside got wet.
