Probably good for warmer adventures

Hestra Ski Cross Glove

Hestra Ski Cross Glove

Rating for this product: 3 April 7, 2011

I purchased these along with a pair of the Vertical Cut Freeride gloves since my hands stay pretty warm. I was expecting the Freerides to be my cold weather gloves and was planning on using the Ski Cross glove for early and late season skiing but after riding with the Freerides for a couple days I think the Ski Cross will be unnecessary. The Freeride glove has kept me warm without sweating in temps from 20-40 so far (but dry overnight easily if i do sweat when skiing bumps or hiking). If you're going to do a lot of hiking and really hate sweaty hands then you might want to consider the Ski Cross glove with a liner but for anything else they probably won't be warm enough.

I gave these a 3 star rating because I haven't worn them yet and from comparison with the Freeride gloves, really don't think they'll be warm at all.

Pretty Awesome

Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride Glove DO NOT USE

Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride Glove DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 4 April 7, 2011

To start, these are some of the most comfortable gloves I've ever worn and despite being leather they were this way straight out of the box. After applying the balm they became even more supple and for a mid bulk glove they have some pretty epic dexterity. The neoprene cuff really locks them in place too and fits nicely under your jacket.

As its now late season in Colorado I was expecting these gloves to just make me sweat, however, they seem to somehow adapt to whatever temperature I'm riding in as long as I'm wearing the proper layering on my core. I usually never get cold (I can wear park gloves in 20F and my hands will stay warm) but with these I've found cold fingers at 32F until I put on the proper base layer. Not sure how that works but it's the reason I'm only giving them 4 stars (I'll probably need to get a stretch liner to wear under them in the cold weather).

My only other gripe, which I wasn't expecting to care about, is the lack of a nose-wipe. It's only a small detail, and something I'm sure I'll get used to, but if you need to wipe your face or goggles a bunch it could make things difficult for you.

All in all these gloves are awesome and I'm happy I finally purchased a pair of Hestra's. Be sure to get the extra little tub of glove balm to keep them lubed and they should last you a really long time.

Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride Glove DO NOT USE

February 22, 2011

I tried both gloves on the other day and switched back and forth trying to decide which to go with. The Vertical Cuts seem to have a little more dexterity with the articulated knuckles and the shorter/neoprene cuff as opposed to the longer leather cuff of the Seth's was a little more comfortable. That being said, I think the Seth's might be a little warmer and seemed to be more heavy duty. Either way you cant go wrong. Hope that helps!

Hestra Ski Cross Glove

February 22, 2011

A little thiner and lighter than the Vertical Cuts. As a result, range of motion and dexterity is a little better as well. Still a warm glove and probably better for a larger range of temperatures if you don't have a history of cold hands.

Hestra Seth Morrison Pro Glove

February 19, 2011

How much warmer/bulkier are these than the Kaj & Sverre model or Vertical Cut freeride? I like small cuff gloves that can fit under my coat (any other models you would recommend if not these ones? I tend to stay pretty warm and only have trouble with gloves when my hands soak them in sweat which in turn freezes...
