Mad Rock R3 Crash Pad

April 30, 2012

So, i don't mean to be rude, but the best way to answer this question is to use a little common sense. do you really think that any company ever would produce a crash pad that didn't have backpack straps? do you really think any company ever would produce a crash pad that had complete dead spots which offer no protection at all every 5 inches or so across the pad?? so yeah, i'm gonna go ahead and say that it does have backpack straps and that it definitely has adequate protection all across the pad. hope this helps.

Rossignol FKS 140 Ski Binding

January 15, 2012

personally, of the two, i'd definitely go with the FKS. depending on HOW aggressive of a skier you are, you might want to consider the FKS 180 though. the 180 has a higher din range and it has a burlier metal toe peice as opposed to 140's partly plastic toe piece. and you'll need the XXL. it has a 115 mm brake.

The Best. The END.

Oakley AirBrake Goggle

Oakley AirBrake Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 January 14, 2012

It's pretty hard to argue a case for any optics company on the market today having better quality than Oakley. Smith is definitely a close second, but if you do a little research into what makes Oakley's frames and lenses (which you should do) you'll find that they are truly a cut above the rest. Now, for the Airbrake specifically. This is definitely Oakley's answer to the Smith I/O, which is very possibly the best and most advanced goggle ever made... until now. One part Oakley's killer optics and one part a far superior lens interchange system makes the Airbrake the king of the block. Unless you simply can't afford them, it's logically the only choice. Do it, your eyes will thank you. As for a lens recommendation, the dark gray and hi-yellow arsenal covers you for pretty much every situation.

Holy Merino!

Stoic Merino 200 1-Z Suit - Men's

Stoic Merino 200 1-Z Suit - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 14, 2012

This is definitely the best thing since sliced bread! i now have probably 10 to 12 days in this thing, still haven't washed it, and it still doesn't smell. 'Nough said. Oh yeah, it's crazy warm too. a full day skiing 8-14 degree temps in just the 1z, a t shirt, and shell jacket and pants and there were only a couple moments on a couple lift rides where i kind of wished i had another layer on but definitely didn't have to. seriously, this thing is epic! yeah, no number two flap, but unless you're truly out in the backcountry where you can't find a restroom, i haven't found it to be much of a big deal. i'm 5'10" 150# and the small fits really well. sorry to anyone shorter than 5'8" though, i doubt this will work for you.

Loving this stuff. Definitely recommended! It works great, not much else to say. I concur with all of the other positive reviews. Buy it, you'll like it! FYI, the 3.4 oz tube is more than it sounds like, it'll go a long way.

MFD Alltime AT Binding

December 16, 2011

so, i'm pretty sure i'm going to get some MFD's and i have a bit of a side question. i know i'm going to be getting new boots in the relatively near future. so my question is, if i go ahead and mount up my P18's to the MFD setup with my current boots is it easy to remount to a slightly smaller/larger boot sole lenght?

You should be able to use crampons with these boots, but the ski board bindings will not work.

Armada Bridger Tech Full-Zip Hooded Sweatshirt - Men's

Armada Bridger Tech Full-Zip Hooded Sweatshirt - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 December 2, 2011

Wasn't stoked on this one. It's steezy for sure, but it really is a material that's only suited as a base layer. i wore it outside when i first got it and any bit of wind took away any insulating properties it had. if you had a wind proof layer over it i'm sure it would be sick, but then you wouldn't see the steeze factor and... well i guess i just don't quite get it. if you're worried about your base layer being steezy and hooded(?) this is a great bet. otherwise i wouldn't recommend it.

If you also have a good shell the Stoic Merino 200 1-Z would be a great option as a base layer!

Great Glove

Stoic The Duke Glove

Stoic The Duke Glove

Rating for this product: 4 November 16, 2011

Just got these and put them to the test on the job (snowmaking at Snowbird) today. It was a chilly one, temps in the teens, and even when ripping around on a snowmobile my hands only got a tiny bit chilly. But, when just skiing or hiking around my hands were toasty warm. Definitely not all that waterproof, but i'm sure with a little Nikwax or something similar they'll be great. Don't think i'd make them my everyday ski glove (for that i use the greatest glove of all time, the Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride)but as a work/backup/touring pair they are great. 4 stars because i don't really like the wrist closure, but that's pretty standard for any work style glove. Overall, highly recommended, especially for the price!!

UPDATE: Staying at 4 stars, but for different reasons. 4 stars and not 5, because they just aren't quite warm enough for the really cold days, but the 4 stars are well earned by the fit, feel, and quality. I love the dexterity, the build quality and the fact that they really are warm enough for MOST days, just not all. and with a little bit of Nikwax's Creme Waterproofing Wax for Leather, they are plenty waterproof. So, if this is your price range for gloves or you're looking for a backup/work pair you'll be more than satisfied.

Smith Holt Helmet

October 22, 2011

yes they would. i'm not certain it is the most ideal fit, but most any goggle will fit with any smith helmet. i wear oakley crowbars with it. i've owned the holt for 3 seasons. i love it! i would imagine that with EG2's it would be the best fit if you wear your goggles under your helmet, but whether you wear your goggles over or under you helmet this is a great choice!

Smith Maze Helmet

September 25, 2011

has anyone seen the "blaze team" color in person? is it orange or red? the picture here makes it look pretty red, but by the word 'blaze' in the name i'm lead to think it might actually be more orange...

GREAT! Definitely recomended!!

Mammut Ophir 3S Harness Crag Bag Kit

Mammut Ophir 3S Harness Crag Bag Kit

Rating for this product: 5 September 6, 2011

Bought this as my first harness and i'm definitley loving it. Getting all of the start-up necessities in one convenient package is awesome. Mammut definitely knows what's good in the climbing world. My only complaint is that the chalk bag did not come with the strap pictured, it had a string with a slider on it, which doesn't make any sense, but no big deal, i just clip it to my harness with a small carabiner. I personally think this is a much better option than the Black Diamond Momentum AL package and is considerably cheaper than the Petzl Corax and Black Diamond Momentum SA packages. Definitely would recommend to a friend.

WICKED SMALL!!

Skullcandy Crown Trucker Hat

Skullcandy Crown Trucker Hat

Rating for this product: 3 July 20, 2011

I just bought this hat, and unfortunately had to return it. it's a really good looking hat and felt like it was quality constructed... but, it's wicked small!!! even with the adjustable strap as big as it goes it barely fit on my head. granted, i have a pretty big dome, even then any adjustable trucker hat should fit just about all sizes. this one, doesn't. that said, if you have a medium to small to SUPER small head this would be a steezy option most definitely.

Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride Glove

Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride Glove

Rating for this product: 5 May 22, 2011

Hands down the best glove i've ever skied in. burlier than pretty much anything out there and warm enough for the coldest days (not too hot on the warmer ones, but not a spring glove). when you send it and the snow's a little firmer than you though it'd be your knuckles will thank you for the extra padding when you punch ice. little pricy, and high maintenance, but WELL worth it. look no further. but if you do, only look to Hestra.

Smith Holt Helmet

Smith Holt Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 January 10, 2011

i've been skiing in the Holt, with and without the audio option, for 3 seasons now. if you're into skiing with music it's definitely worth paying for the audio shot. i haven't skied in the Maze helmet from smith, i have tried it on, but i still think i'm going to go with another Holt when i buy a new helmet. it's just simple, steezy, and protective. not to mention warm. maybe check out the Maze if you're worried about the weight, but you CAN NOT go wrong with this helmet. way better than other Giro's i've owned.

Line Eric Pollard Pro Ski

Line Eric Pollard Pro Ski

Rating for this product: 5 January 10, 2011

try it!!!! my intro to the EP pro was only because i ripped a binding out of the fat skis that i had at the time. living in utah, i was pretty bummed to have my fat skis out of commission, but i was lucky enough to have one of my buddies say, hey u can use my EP's until you get something new. i was definitely stoked to have something fat to ski on, but as i'm a pretty hard charging big mountain skier i immediately said, 'well at least it's something, but i just know i'm going to hate these things. WRONG! i ended up buying them off of him. i ski Snowbird, UT and anything from straight lining the cirque to making pow turns in mineral basin to sending it on north baldy. this ski kills it (in the deep) and holds it's own very well in the chop and can get around on hard pack. my disclaimer: i ski the '07- '08 model. which from what i read (i haven't skied any of the newer models) is a fair bit softer, which only means that the newer models are even more versatile. so check it out, Eric Pollard kind of knows what he's talkin' about.

Atomic Bent Chetler Ski

September 17, 2009

with respect, i don't think peter's answer is very accurate. i'm 5'9" and about 145# and i've skied the 189cm 139mm waisted bluehouse maven in a resort and loved it. if you're 5'8" and 150 the bent chetler would probably be really good for you. that's the thing with rocker is that the actual running edge of the ski, contact point to contact point, is much shorter and makes the ski ride like a much shorter ski. so that's kindof the reason i think it's only offered in the 183. rockered skis of this type with camber underfoot and reverse sidecut at the tip and tail allow for a very wide range of skiers
