No complaints - great binding

Rossignol FKS 140 Ski Binding

Rossignol FKS 140 Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 5 March 7, 2010

Have around 5 days on these and so far they've been great. I had them put on some new Sir Francis Bacons and they've treated me well in every circumstance. Never a pre-release and they've performed as expected on some really wicked wipe-outs. They're light but feel very sturdy and they look good too (which doesn't really matter to me but it's a small bonus feature).

Rossignol FKS 140 Ski Binding

January 18, 2010

How do these compare to the Rossignol Freeski2 140? It seems to me that the only difference is that the FKS features the Pivot Heel. Does that make that much of a difference?

Bad thumb holes = disappointed

Backcountry.com Merino Crew Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Backcountry.com Merino Crew Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 January 10, 2010

I usually love BC.com stuff and have a lot of it, but this disappointed me. I bought it because I wanted a base layer with thumb holes.

Con: The thumb holes are positioned poorly so the sleeve must rotate to fit the thumbs. Just look at the picture, they line up more perfectly with my ring finger or pinky. In addition, the thumb hole was so small I couldn't get my last big knuckle through it making it uncomfortable and awkward. It was a little itchy since it was wool, but not too bad.

Pro: It did fit well which is why it got 2 stars instead one. I'm 6'4" 220lbs, pretty athletic build and it fit perfectly, room to move but close to the body.

Stoic Breaker Fleece Full-Zip Hooded Sweatshirt - Men's

December 23, 2009

I have the BC.com wool hooded jacket that you refer to and it appears from the pictures that this is not meant as a replacement for that jacket. From the pics this looks more like a normal hoody and more floppy than the wool jacket that I have. The wool jacket is more for casual wear and not very good for active pursuits.

If you're a XXL, you can still pickup the wool jacket here:

Great, very comfy

Salomon XA Comp 3 GTX Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 9, 2009

My feet get very anxious in shoes, I can't wear them for very long. These are surprisingly very comfortable and have been great on day hikes. The lace system is sweet since I hate shoe laces. They also work well with my orthodics. Very grippy and looks good with some dirt/mud on them - no complaints. Pic is from Haleakala on Maui.

Great shoes, minor gripes.

The North Face Rowan Shoe - Men's

The North Face Rowan Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 August 9, 2009

These shoes are very similar in feel to my Sanuk's - very roomy - especially at the front. They're very light and very gripy and make for a comfy shoe. That being said, the heel is strangely really stiff, especially since the rest of the shoe is kind of floppy. It's taken me about 2 months to break in the heel pocket so they're a little more comfortable. They also have a very flat footbed, if you need arch support or something, these aren't your shoes. Bottom line is that they are light, roomy and breathe really well. They're good casual shoes but take some time to break in.

Salomon XA Comp 3 GTX Trail Running Shoe - Men's

July 12, 2009

Actually, I think they run a little big. I bought them at a store and the salesperson said so and I found it to be true. I usually wear a 11.5 or 12 and I got an 11.

The North Face Hayden Shoe - Men's

July 12, 2009

I don't have this exact shoe, but I have a NF shoe that has the same tread and was looking forward to using it in the snow - it's very grippy. My shoe (and this one looks similar) feels very light though, almost like a slipper and doesn't seem like it would be that warm. That's what socks are for though, right?

Nothing Special

Skullcandy Smokin' Bud Headphones

Skullcandy Smokin' Bud Headphones

Rating for this product: 3 April 21, 2009

Pulled these off Whiskey the other day because I'd heard Skull Candy stuff was so good and they were like $12 or something. They look awesome and they fit really well but comparing with the standard iPod ones I was looking to upgrade, they don't sound better. In fact, low tones and high tones both sound better with the standard Apple ones. These aren't terrible, if you're looking for a good pair of headphones. These look good and sound good, but don't expect anything special.

Liberty Helix Alpine Ski

April 3, 2009

I don't think you can go wrong with any of these. I've always heard great things about the Gotamas and it is always well reviewed but I can't speak to it myself. I have a pair of Line skis and they are great, the Prophets are a solid ski. The Helix has more flex than the Prophets so if you like your skis stiff go for those. I've heard lots of good things about these Helix's - from some ski instructor friends. What you should really do, is check Tramdock.com for the Helix skis to pop up again - they were like $250 - that's a decision maker right there. :) (Check out TramAttack.com for Tramdock history...)

Smith 2008 Variant Brim Helmet

March 28, 2009

Not sure about the comparison, but the helmet should be snug when you first get it so I would get a smaller size. The padding will compress over time giving you a better fit.

Line Prophet 90 Alpine Ski

March 28, 2009

I'm partial to Line but have both Line (EP) and 4FRNT skis (STL) and love them. I think I would take the MSP, it's a little fatter. But really, can't go wrong with either one - so just get both. :)

Orage Alaskan Jacket - Men's

March 18, 2009

Thanks James. I did find a store and tried a L Alaskan and a different XL Orage jacket on for comparison. L was a bit too snug in the chest if I was going to wear anything underneath or stash goggles inside (length was good). I think XL would be perfect. Now, if only I could find the blue Alaskan in XL...

Great Ski

4FRNT Skis STL Alpine Ski

4FRNT Skis STL Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 March 18, 2009

I wouldn't classify myself as a park skier, but theses skis are great. I had them center mounted and love them. Lots of pop off the jumps and still solid rocking the groomers at high speed. Much lighter than my other skis too. Bonus point: the graphics won't look ridiculous in a few years and don't make me wanna hurl.

Great Stylish Jacket

Backcountry.com Wool Hooded Jacket - Men's

Backcountry.com Wool Hooded Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 18, 2009

This jacket is a great causal / nice jacket to wear out and about. I've worn it to go out drinking, out to a business lunch when it was snowing and everything in between. Very versatile, always looks nice. I get lots of compliments on it. I should mention, when the wind blows really hard this isn't totally windproof. Very windy days aside, this will keep you nice and warm.

Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride Glove DO NOT USE

Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride Glove DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 January 19, 2009

I've always suffered from cold hands on the lift. I've had the chance to wear these gloves a few times now and they kept my hands warm on a cold and snowy day in Tahoe but also dry and comfortable on a 50 degree day in So Cal. Not quite sure how that is possible, but I guess that is why I like them. Under the cuff is great, I was so tired of the gauntlets. Super comfy, warm, not bulky and very dry. What else do you need. If you have the dough, get them. If not, save up and get them. In 20 years of skiing, one of the best purchases I have ever made.
