The M will work well. I'm a 31 and I cinched mine a bit. The shorts however need more cinching than the pants.

I think I have some of the originals so I'm not sure about any changes that have been made. I use these pants for biking, hiking, kickin' around and they're awesome!I commute to work and I arrive looking respectable. I get home and throw on a t-shirt and I'm comfortable. I go hiking and they move with me... I could sleep in them.I have worn them so many times I'm amazed how well they've held up!I'm buying another pair and I hope I'm not let down by the new version!

A little better than pretty cool

If you can get it on sale it's worth the $.

They're just about perfect.

These shorts are awesome! They're perfect for biking, hiking, running, swimming (though they don't have a liner)... The zippered pockets are convenient (glad there's no velcro) and they look good. You can basically do any of the activities above and still go for a bite and a beer without looking like a frocio. I bought the pants and a pair of shorts for my dad.
