Good fit for a smaller face

Julbo Nomad Sunglasses - Alti Spectron 4 Lens

Julbo Nomad Sunglasses - Alti Spectron 4 Lens

Rating for this product: 5 June 19, 2008

I'm not a big gal so finding any sort of wraparound sunglasses that fit is akin to finding needle in a haystack. These glasses surprised me in that the design of the arms is meant to fit a variety of faces (although I'd guess that larger faces/heads may not find as good a fit). The arms don't angle downward to anchor onto your ears, instead they are curved to fit your head. You'd think that they would have a tendency to slip, but there is a textured material that holds snugly against your hair (or hat). The lenses are a bit dark, so have a backup plan if you're hiking/climbing in overcast conditions. And for the style conscious, the glasses come with two colors of side shields.

Texture issues

MSR Packtowl UltraLite

MSR Packtowl UltraLite

Rating for this product: 3 June 19, 2008

This product performs as promised, however I have a problem with the texture of the material. Although I like this new material compared to the old chamois-style pack towels, it feels like you're drying off with a shop-weight paper towel. I just wish someone could find a material that actually feels like fabric that has the same performance quality.

Just so-so

Petzl Fakir Crampon Carrying Bag

Petzl Fakir Crampon Carrying Bag

Rating for this product: 3 June 19, 2008

This bag is a tight fit even for my Petzl crampons in their smallest setting. You also need to make sure that you have all your points properly positioned or you do run the risk of one of those points threatening to push through the material portion of the bag (although I haven't experienced it happening, it looks like a matter of time before I do). The mesh top is a great feature as is the hanging loop so that you can dry them off in the bag. If I were to do it over again, I'd probably get point covers instead.

Fantastic!

Mountain Hardwear Makalu Softshell Pant - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Makalu Softshell Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 19, 2008

These pants are amazingly warm considering their thickness. They are impervious to wind and I found the DWR coating to be more water resistant than expected (I typically buy GoreTex products). Love the ankle zips for fitting over mountaineering or snow sport boots. In all, a very flexible performer for all outdoor activities. Only downside is that the fit on these pants is a bit bigger than I expected, but I'm also a very petite gal (5'2")...

Outdoor Research Crocodiles Gaiter - Women's

Outdoor Research Crocodiles Gaiter - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 19, 2008

And probably my last considering how durable these things seem to be. I'm a newbie with crampons so I'm still constantly rubbing against the gaiters quite a bit, but I've not seen any evidence of wear yet. Easy on/off, but once they're on they're not going anywhere. Good fit for a very generalized product.
