La Sportiva Glacier EVO Mountaineering Boot - Men's
October 28, 2009
Hey Ryan,
Maybe you've already handled it but there is literally 1 pair left of 43.5's. They're great boots! I just did 7 hours in 18inches of snow today and my feed remained dry as a bone.....and that's with 3 pretty lengthy stream crossings. I was definitely impressed!

The North Face Venture Parka - Men's
October 27, 2009
With the fit you're looking for and with your measurements I'd go with an XL. Double X is going to be too baggy and L is going to be too tight.
Hope that helps.

I'd go with the double X for sure. I take a 34/35 sleeve length and can fit in an XL. He should fit just fine in the double though.
Hope that helps.

Columbia Bugaboot Winter Boot - Boys'
October 27, 2009
Hey Melissa,
I picked these up for 2 of my boys and they haven't had any problems. The only issue in warmth was when my youngest pulled his bibs up and let snow get down inside. They messed around in deep snow all last winter and they also used them for snowshoeing......kept their tootsies warm the whole time.
Hope that helps.

Columbia Snow Powder Down Bunting - Infant Boys'
October 27, 2009
Hey Carrie,
If you're up in Fargo, ND you may want to set your little guy up with down:) You should be totally fine just doing fleece for him. They won't be much different in terms of warmth in the car but the down is going to be better out in the elements as far as being more windproof.
Hope that helps.

686 Motive Pipe Glove - Men's
October 27, 2009
Hey Mike,
It really depends on how cold your hands run. Having spoken with a couple of employees I was told that this glove should be pretty safe down to the 15º-30º range with descent activity. They're not going to be warm enough doing a bunch of standing around or with very little activity.
Hope that helps.

Mountain Hardwear Typhoon Jacket - Men's
October 27, 2009
Do you mean the waterproof/breathability ratings?
This jacket is okay as far as durbility. Paclite isn't the most durable stuff though, as it is really meant for compactability. It is incredibly waterproof though. If you're wanting something with a lot more durability then check out either a GoreTex Performance or Pro shell.
Hope that helps.

Osprey Packs Variant 52 Backpack - 3000-3400cu in
October 26, 2009
Hey Chris,
If you're looking to compartmentalize more in terms of your sleeping bag or other gear you'd want to go with the Aether 70. The Variant series doesn't do an individual compartment.....it's pretty much a tube with some great tool attachments on the outside. There are also a few pockets on the outside. Speaking with both Backcountry.com and Osprey about the Variant it's meant more for technical type activities instead of backpacking. The Aether is quite a bit bigger which would be nice for a multi-use pack. With that said, I love my Variant! They're incredibly comfortable, move well with you and don't feel bulky at all when they're loaded down and strapped on. Plus they still have the cool whistle on them just in case you run into some Ligers on the trail:)
Hope that helps!

Osprey Packs Xenon 85 Backpack - Women's - 4700-5100cu in
October 11, 2009
Hey Kiki,
They don't make a pack exactly like this with ski carries on it. You would probably want to look at the Variant 52. They are definitely a simpler pack in terms of pocket options but they have more on the exterior of the pack for ski's etc. They are extremely comfortable and bomb proof. I have the old version of the Variant which is the Exposure and it is holding up amazingly well with some seriously rough treatment. I would say it is nearly as comfortable but not quite and also the venting on the back isn't as good as this pack.
Hope that helps.

Backcountry.com Shift Softshell Jacket - Men's
September 25, 2009
It looks a little different than this in person. Where do you feel it looks off? I thought it looked too much like a biker-cut jacket with short torso and long arms. They don't fit that way at all. The torso is definitely longer than it looks. Between this and the Marmot I'd still go with Backcountry. This has a more athletic cut so it doesn't seem as baggy in awkward areas.
Hope that helps.

Backcountry.com Merino Hiking Sock - 3-Pack
September 25, 2009
Depends on your feet in terms of temperature. Are you going during the colder season? If so you may want to go warmer. If your feet are use to a little thinner sock or a medium thick sock these will be fine. They're fantastic socks! I use them for about everything. They never stink and they don't rub my feet funny either.
Hope that helps.

Mountain Hardwear Absolute Zero Overboot
September 23, 2009
This overboot would work actually very well. If you intend to ONLY use them over your tent booties you'll want to size down a bit. The sizing chart is dead-on but it is meant for sizing over leather or double plastic boots. You aren't going to have to worry about them feeling sloppy, after sizing down, because there is an elastic strap/buckle inside to snug your foot down in place.
Hope that helps.

Patagonia Storm Light Jacket - Men's
September 18, 2009
To a certain degree this is going to be a matter of opinion. In my opinion the Storm Light is a better way to go because of the lining and extra pockets. That is an especially important feature if he'll wear the jacket without a lot of layering.
Just to keep your options open you might look at some of the shells made by backcountry.com like the Stoic eVent or the Stoic 2.0. Check out the outlet. I'm a huge fan of them. The performance is second to none!
Hope that helps.

You may be best to jump on "live chat" and see if there was some kind of a glitch. They'll be able to look up the history of pricing and sort it out for you.

Here's a question, hopefully for Jon Webb.
I just picked up a pair of these as we have some extreme conditions headed our way and my feet tend to run just a little cold. When I took them out of the plastic I noticed that they cover the entire boot, including the tread. Are you meant to cut out the bottom to custom fit them to you boots?
Thanks in advance!

The North Face Mountain 25 Tent - 2-Person 4-Season
July 1, 2009
These tents are bomb proof! They do tend to heat up during the summer but you can ditch the rain fly and vent it out a bit and you should be fine. 1/2 pound can feel like a ton if you're really weighted down but I wouldn't worry too much about it. This is just a great, solid tent!
Hope that helps.

July 1, 2009
Sure have. It's a huge pain but I guess that's what we have to deal with. I have found that when the footprint is slightly tucked underneath the tent, so it isn't visible, it tends to help quite a bit. I did get stuck in a downpour and still had some accumulation but things seemed to be better. Hope that helps.
