Steve Tibbitts's Winter camping at Peter Sink Utah
Created October 26, 2009
This is a bit of the gear I like for winter camping in some fairly extreme conditions. The Peter Sink area in Utah has the coldest recorded temperatures in the lower 48!

I had to work with mine for a while and after a lot of frustration and a couple of big, deep breaths I just wiggled and twisted it enough to get it on there. Tubbs Wilderness Series Snowshoe - Women's
November 15, 2009
This would be a great all'rounder for snowshoeing. I have always felt that getting a little bit longer snowshoe is the better choice for more versatility. Longer is going to give you more options in the backcountry and in deeper snow. The main reason to get something a little smaller is if you're going to get into snowshoe running, but it is still possible on longer shoes.
Hope that helps.

Outdoor Research Crocodiles Gaiter - Women's
November 15, 2009
These gators are fantastic! They're completely waterproof. My wife and I both have croc's and we hike in all four seasons in them. My wife has personally had her leg submerged up to about 3 or 4 inches below the top of the gator for about a minute and she was bone dry underneath. The only thing these don't hold up to are snags on crampons, but they repaired very easily.
Hope that helps.

Salomon XT Wings GTX Trail Running Shoe - Men's
November 15, 2009
Hey Erfan,
The XA Pro's definitely have more of a firm sole. XT Wings are much more pliable and should give you a little bit more of a plush ride. You might want to be a little careful, or just take notice of the lacing system. I use to wear these and had mass problems with the laces wearing through after only a couple longish runs. Hopefully they have fixed the problem. Absolutely comfortable shoes none-the-less.
Hope that helps.

Unfortunately there are only 18 and 24 month sizes left. They don't have mesh inside so it sounds like exactly what you're looking for.....except for the size issue. If you jump on "live chat" they can usually look up if there are more of them on order and roughly when you can expect them in. Give 'em a shot.
Hope that helps.

Burton Entourage Jacket - Men's - 08/09
November 15, 2009
Hey Sean,
You're right on the edge of both sizes. It really depends on how you like your jackets to fit. If you like them on the snug side, or like a more athletic fit then I'd go with the L. I prefer this type of jacket to have a little room so with that I'd go with an XL. They do fit really true to size according to the chart up-top.
Hope that helps.

Maybe you've already handled it but there is literally 1 pair left of 43.5's. They're great boots! I just did 7 hours in 18inches of snow today and my feed remained dry as a bone.....and that's with 3 pretty lengthy stream crossings. I was definitely impressed!

Yakima PowderHound Snow Roof Rack

This rack will fit just fine as long as you have the cross bars for your factory rack. They'll work with pretty much everything.

The North Face Venture Parka - Men's
October 27, 2009
With the fit you're looking for and with your measurements I'd go with an XL. Double X is going to be too baggy and L is going to be too tight.
Hope that helps.

The North Face Venture Parka - Men's

I'd go with the double X for sure. I take a 34/35 sleeve length and can fit in an XL. He should fit just fine in the double though.
Hope that helps.

Your best bet is to jump on "live chat" and see if they can hook you up. It might take them a few minutes but a lot of those folks are super cool with helping out that way. Give it a go.....

Columbia Bugaboot Winter Boot - Boys'
October 27, 2009
Hey Melissa,
I picked these up for 2 of my boys and they haven't had any problems. The only issue in warmth was when my youngest pulled his bibs up and let snow get down inside. They messed around in deep snow all last winter and they also used them for snowshoeing......kept their tootsies warm the whole time.
Hope that helps.

Columbia Snow Powder Down Bunting - Infant Boys'
October 27, 2009
Hey Carrie,
If you're up in Fargo, ND you may want to set your little guy up with down:) You should be totally fine just doing fleece for him. They won't be much different in terms of warmth in the car but the down is going to be better out in the elements as far as being more windproof.
Hope that helps.

686 Motive Pipe Glove - Men's
October 27, 2009
Hey Mike,
It really depends on how cold your hands run. Having spoken with a couple of employees I was told that this glove should be pretty safe down to the 15º-30º range with descent activity. They're not going to be warm enough doing a bunch of standing around or with very little activity.
Hope that helps.

Mountain Hardwear Typhoon Jacket - Men's
October 27, 2009
Do you mean the waterproof/breathability ratings?
This jacket is okay as far as durbility. Paclite isn't the most durable stuff though, as it is really meant for compactability. It is incredibly waterproof though. If you're wanting something with a lot more durability then check out either a GoreTex Performance or Pro shell.
Hope that helps.

Osprey Packs Variant 52 Backpack - 2990-3356cu in
October 26, 2009
Hey Chris,
If you're looking to compartmentalize more in terms of your sleeping bag or other gear you'd want to go with the Aether 70. The Variant series doesn't do an individual compartment.....it's pretty much a tube with some great tool attachments on the outside. There are also a few pockets on the outside. Speaking with both Backcountry.com and Osprey about the Variant it's meant more for technical type activities instead of backpacking. The Aether is quite a bit bigger which would be nice for a multi-use pack. With that said, I love my Variant! They're incredibly comfortable, move well with you and don't feel bulky at all when they're loaded down and strapped on. Plus they still have the cool whistle on them just in case you run into some Ligers on the trail:)
Hope that helps!

prAna Thresher Pant - Men's

Which size are you looking at? I have larges and the inseam is about 33. I would go by the shorter end of the inseam listed in the sizing chart provided.
Hope that helps.
