Volkl Mantra Alpine Ski

Volkl Mantra Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 March 9, 2009

So I skied these skis for 6 days in every condition there is....i love them. if i could throw money down on a new ski this would be it no questions asked. the mantra is at home any where on the mountain. i am in idaho and blasted through freshies, crud, groomers, and left-overs in these bad boys and ripped every second. It is not a ski for someone who does not want to put in work but if once you get them dialed, you will slay the mountain...i promise. They are phat under foot but still can catch and hold edge. So sick, i love them.
Negatives (lets face it thats why we read reviews) - you do have to push this ski to catch and turn. you feel the tail alot, i got crossed up a few times. It has a wide radius, more like a gs turn than anything else, if you want short tight turns get something else or get ready to put in work.
Overall - they bust through crud like no ones business. i was making my own turns on top of a steep cruddy chopped up black with no worries. this f*in ski rips if you can get dial it in. I would be happy with this ski for any condition but it does chatter on fast hard pack.so stay in the pow and backwoods. cheers

another solid rossi ski

Rossignol Phantom SC 97 Alpine Ski

Rossignol Phantom SC 97 Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 March 9, 2009

i got to ride this ski for a 3 day this winter. the first day i got a couple inches of snow, next day nothing and third day it warmed up and got heavy. The phantom is a solid ski. I would prefer something with a little more stiffness but the ski compensates with a super snappy attitude. it can get on edge and turn really quick esp. for a 97 under foot ski. it is great for someone that drops into some untracked or glade runs but still rips a good deal on the way back to the lift. It is a fun ski to ride and super quick to let you rip all day.

I am not a fan of gadgets on skis nor boots. but this ski rocks hard. it was quick to catch the edge once you made your move and held it through the crud, hardpack, and even a little ice. I rode for a while in the middle setting and then switched over to blast down a steep (5'11", 195 on 170) and noticed a decline in chatter when ripping turns on wind blown hardpack. nice ski, solid inbounds but i would not pay the sticker for them

great big day ski

Volkl Katana Alpine Ski

Volkl Katana Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 4 March 9, 2009

theses things rip when there is some snow on the ground. i would not recommend them as an everyday ski nor even consider telling someone that sticks to groomers and the reg. inbounds runs to consider them. i checked them out when silver mtn id got 30' and needed something to keep me on top of the pow. they feel huge at first but after a couple runs i got adjusted and got some props on the tracks i made on them. the tails are slightly reverse camber and dove tailed so it makes it easier to ski switch and really just turn in general. they float when needed and blasted through the crud later in the day. if you are looking for a ski that can handle its own in the freshies and off the groomers check this mammajamma out. if you like the mantra, check out the katana on a freshies day and you wont be disappointed. however, if you dont want to put a little work into commanding this beast, dont bother....its not for the little guys or the S turn stylist. this b*tch aint no joke. super solid in some new snow but a little sluggish on groomers and lame terrain.

Great Deal

Lange Fluid 80 FR Ski Boot - Men's

Lange Fluid 80 FR Ski Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 9, 2009

I picked these up as a shot in the dark. I got lucky. I wear a 11.5 At times the toe box feels pretty lose but that is better than my last boot (technica ti-4 -->which i LOVED). I like that the fr-80 is very basic with no extra tweak settings -> its a 4 buckle boot with a little adjustment in the flex. I got them this year and have had about 12 days on them...no complaints. I scored them on tramdock which helped out alot but would pay 3 bills for this boot. Its solid and lets you shred but doesn't feel like you just got your feet plastered with concrete. I would buy another pair.

Rossignol Phantom SC 97 Alpine Ski

March 7, 2009

the only difference is the under foot measurements. the bigger the number the wider and prob. the longer. i like this ski but it is rather soft. be sure to have some soft snow to ride with but a great ski for sure.
