La Sportiva Nuptse Mountaineering Boot - Men's

Plastic boots are not all that comfortable-your feet slop around in those things. I would go with the Nuptse for comfort even though they are going to be really warm or buy a pair of Lhotse boots.

I climbed Antisana, Cotopaxi, and Chimborazo with these on one trip to Ecuador. And then climbed other peaks above 20,000 ft in Bolivia. They are warm and hike like Makalu leather boots.

La Sportiva Glacier EVO Mountaineering Boot - Men's

NO WAY!!!! You could be moving slowly in minus 30 or less temps. at 20,000 ft. You need to wear double boots on Denali. I wouldn't even wear these on 6000 meter peaks in the Andes.

Hydro Photon SteriPEN Adventurer Handheld Ultraviolet Water Purifier

Hydro Photon SteriPEN Adventurer Handheld Ultraviolet Water Purifier

Rating for this product: 2 June 7, 2009

I bought one of these in 2008 for a climbing trip in Ecuador. It worked ok, but would often require more than one attempt before it purified the water. A bit of a pain, really. Then I put it away and just brought it on a trip to Bolivia. With new batteries in it the thing just decided to stop working. Luckily I had some tablets with me.
It is light. It is a great concept. Perhaps I got a bad one? Just wish it was more reliable. I'm glad Backcountry stands behind defective products!

Great gloves!

Black Diamond WindWeight Glove

Black Diamond WindWeight Glove

Rating for this product: 4 May 26, 2009

Just used these on three peaks in Bolivia. They worked well for all conditions they are designed for. It is easy to grab and hold things with them, and they are warm and wind proof. When it got really cold I had to put on the mitts-they were a tad thick to use inside the mittens.
