Excellent gloves, for what they are

Arc'teryx Hardface Glove - Unisex

Arc'teryx Hardface Glove - Unisex

Rating for this product: 4 February 21, 2011

These fit great, better than any other softshell gloves that I've tried or owned. For wearing when cold but not frigid (say, 25 to 40 degrees), they are very useful. My biggest criticism is that they lack adequate grip because of the limited leather palm--grasping anything with the finger tips is slippery. Given that Arcteryx sells other gloves that do have full leather fingers, that's more of a failing of my purchase process than the gloves themselves. I'm planning to replace them with a comparable Arcteryx pair with better grip.

Perfect hiking pants

Arc'teryx Rampart Pant - Men's

Arc'teryx Rampart Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 23, 2009

These have replaced my North Face convertible pants as my favorite hiking pants. Perfect fit (I'm 5'10", 180, wear 32/30), not too baggy (and that makes them look sharp enough when you're off the trail) and the stretch aspect of the fabric makes them super comfy. The material dries very quickly when wet. Finally, the pockets are useful, as the stretch fabric means that your legs don't bind when hiking with big items in the pockets.

Best overhead wheeled bag I've found

Burton Wheelie Flight Deck Luggage

Burton Wheelie Flight Deck Luggage

Rating for this product: 5 March 4, 2009

I had used an excellent Victorinox wheelie for a few years until my girlfriend got a Flight Deck. After borrowing hers on a couple flights, I had to get my own. Why is it the best? 1) Super space-efficient, due to compact telescoping handle and squared off corners (whereas my Victorinox and others, including the new Timbuk2 travel bags, are rounded and don't take advantage of the full size allowed by the airlines). 2) Excellent Burton construction. 3) Great little pockets and general layout.

Burton Wheelie Flight Deck Luggage

March 2, 2009

I've used my girlfriend's Flight Deck on a couple flights and have been able to fit it in the overhead as you described, not turned sideways. You might run into an issue on the smallest jets, but it seems like many size-compliant overhead bags have trouble on those planes.

Prefer the fit of the Scorpion

Arc'teryx Sidewinder AR Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Sidewinder AR Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 16, 2009

This is an excellent ski jacket, but I wound up returning it and sticking with my Arcteryx Scorpion (Gore-Tex soft shell), as that jacket has a better fit. A Medium in the Sidewinder, even with a thick fleece on underneath, doesn't fit me as closely as the Scorpion in medium, which just seems to be a more form-fitting jacket. If you're thicker through the shoulders than I am (5'10", 180), maybe you'll prefer the Sidewinder.

Killer jacket

Arc'teryx Stingray Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Stingray Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 16, 2009

I've had my Stingray for 3 seasons now, and still love it as much as I did on day 1. Perfect fit, great looks, super durability, and, most importantly, the Gore-Tex Soft Shell material has never let me down with respect to waterproofing and wind protection, whether on the groomers or in the back country. This year's model is even better (tried one on at a local REI), as the powder skirt is much improved and the Soft Shell material is softer and more supple than on my jacket (which I think was the first year of production for the Gore-Tex Soft Shell fabric).
