Osprey Packs Aether 70 Backpack- 4000-4400cu in

February 10, 2009

bodies like ours make this pack a great solution for fit problems. interchangeable waist belt. i got the large pack/shoulder harness and opted for a small waistbelt. i'd suggest going to an outfitter and getting fitted before buying one (or at least before getting the belt heat molded)

The North Face Zot Windstopper Jacket - Men's

The North Face Zot Windstopper Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 September 16, 2008

the windstopper is in the colored part of the jacket only. the gray under the arms and down the sides is the apex strech material. some wind gets through the apex stuff so don't expect this jacket to block all the wind.

the velcro hand cuffs and a 2 cord locks around the waist seal this jacket up pretty nice. it's a bit big in the neck for me and some air gets in there - however i went for a little bigger size than normal so i can layer underneath. have yet to test this in rain/snow.

the material is very soft and pliable. it feels good against bare skin. the zipper has a shield behind it to keep the wind out and the metal of the zipper off your skin. it also has a little flap at the top to keep the zipper from scratching your chin.

i picked it up on steepandcheap for 80 bucks and am pleased w/ my purchase at that price.

Marmot PreCip Jacket - Men's

Marmot PreCip Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 September 16, 2008

i'm displeased w/ this rain jacket. i bought it as a lightweight rain jacket and needed one w/ pitzips. soooo many hikers swear by this jacket but i don't know why. after a few months the sleeves have become absolutely useless. they get soaked through in 5 minutes of even light rain. the waist is also starting to wet out at a very fast rate. i wouldn't count on this jacket when staying dry really matters. i have to give credit to marmot though. i called and explained my situation and they said to send the jacket in. i'm planning on doing that soon so we'll see what they do about it...
