I love the outdoors and am a gear-a-holic. But I'm constantly disappointed in women's outdoor clothing options. It seems like they are designed more for women who don't get out much. I'm still jonesing for that company that gets it right!

Mountain Hardwear Corsica Convertible Pant - Women's

May 12, 2009

I tried on my friend's 8 and they were too big. So I ordered a 6. My other mountain hardware pants are a 6 and fit comfortably loose. Their sizing chart seems to be pretty accurate. Basically, a size 6 is a 31" inseam, and the long is 2 more inches longer.

The North Face Greenland Zip Boot - Women's

The North Face Greenland Zip Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 February 17, 2009

I sure wish TNF made wider shoes! Otherwise these boots would have been perfect. I read all these reviews before buying and suspected this might be an issue. I even ordered 1/2 size larger but my feet were still squished. Shin/calf fit was loose on me and let in a lot of air. Pluses: Tread is bomber; easy in-out of boot; soft insoles; warm!

Could work...

Marmot Rubicon Jacket - Women's

Marmot Rubicon Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 February 2, 2009

I just received this in the mail and can't decide if I want to keep it. The Gortex is a plus. The blue color is very rich and feminine. Hand warming pockets are indeed warm, but get blocked by a pack. The outside chest pocket is very accessible with a pack. Love the zippers and unside velcro flap. Hood is a bit tight with a helmet. I wish it was lighter. The extra layer inside seems excessive and hot - I wonder how breathable that layer of fabric really is. Roomy enough to wear a fleece underneath. Powder skirt is a big plus! And it's removable.

Outdoor Research Varia 3-in-1 Jacket - Women's

Outdoor Research Varia 3-in-1 Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 January 26, 2009

I am disappointed in this jacket. It would have everything going for it except the 2 front pockets are right where my pack waist belt is. I just don't think that will work as I like to use those pockets too much. The shell is large in the chest - never thought I would say that was a problem as I'm busty. Not flattering at all. Needs to be more form-fitting. With the pack on, I looked like I had a shelf of a chest with all the extra fabric. Seemed strange. Perhaps it just runs large. I'm a solid medium and this really felt too big. As for the construction, that was done very well for taping, but wish the front used the flapless sippers like in the pits. Not recommended for backcountry/pack wearing. The hood fit my helmet, but it was tight. Sorry BC, but I'm returning this purchase!

The North Face Ultra 104 GTX XCR Trail Running Shoe - Men's

The North Face Ultra 104 GTX XCR Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 5, 2009

I got these for my husband. He really wanted another company's shoe, but they don't make his size (7). So we settled for TNF brand. I have to say we're pleasently surprised. Only complaint so far is they are heavier than desired. He's still making adjustments to the shoe laces to prevent heel slip but the end is near. Thanks to TNF for making sizes smaller than men's 8. Way to keep an open mind! Also thanks for not making such narrow shoes anymore. We were shocked they have such a wide toe box - a-typical for the brand.

I want another pair! But so expensive...

CW-X Insulator Expert Tight - Women's

CW-X Insulator Expert Tight - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 9, 2008

These tights are very comfortable to run & ski in. VERY warm, but breathable. I have run in them on a 60 degree day and not been too overheated and on a 20 degree day and not been too cold. I can sort-of relate to the other comments - I used to be 20lbs heavier and the tights were too tight (and long since I had to go with M to fit my weight). Now they are a bit too loose and tend to slide down while running, but the drawsting helps manage the issue. As for knee support, it's better than other tights but could be better if they were not too long (petit sizes would be nice CW-X!) I do have to say that they are too expensive. I can't really afford them full price and jump at the rare opportunity when they are on sale. I'm hoping a Small will be better for me in the future.
