Dynafit Race Performance Ski

March 1, 2012

I'm 6'2" 185lbs, how will these skis at only 161cm handle my size in variable snow (windpac, powder, hardpack, ice, crud) during recreational rando races?

Currently I am rando rallying on an old pair of Black Diamond Arc Ascents which are 175cm and handle everything really well except deep powder. Both of skis mentioned here have pretty narrow side cut by today's standards.

Efficient kick n glide n schuss

Scarpa F1 Boot

Scarpa F1 Boot

Rating for this product: 4 September 16, 2011

This is my fourth try at AT boots for Rando Rally Recreation Races. As a youth raised on diagonal stride classic kick n glide, this version of the F1 is the best for providing a trotting gait, that lopping fox trot of forward momentum due to the flex bellows.....there's a reason why all the Euros ski this boot. This is the only boot I've tried that gives metatarsals flex that prevents numbing due to still sole.
I ditched the powerstrap for now, using a thick rubber band for instead for holding the liner tight above the ankle. The liners are heat moldable but not Intuition brand. The entry and exit from this boot is fast and clean unlike the Dynafit TLT 5's I tried to love.
Downhill performance is what you'd expect...they're not a 4 buckle boot.....but your skills have to compensate for lack of full boot control on the descents. Ideal for Rando or long tour days.

Scarpa F1 Boot

August 7, 2011

this one is for kirk haskell: I thought the liners WERE heat moldable. second question I had the older f1 how are these better? I didn't love the throw down switch from up to downhill during rando race transitions...couldn't get the tightest feel....

Dynafit TLT 5 Mountain TF-X Alpine Touring Boot - Men's

Dynafit TLT 5 Mountain TF-X Alpine Touring Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 3, 2011

this is a great boot for AT tours, recreation rando rallies and I've even used it at the resort for some hike to ski at A-Basin.

I upgraded from the F1 Scarpa which I didn't like the throw down bar for locking....and the boot feels like a tele boot...which is nice with the flex....until you go the TLT 5 and there was no comparison: comfort, flex, weight, style!

Patagonia Rubicon Rider Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Rubicon Rider Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 2, 2011

I am 6'2" 175lbs....got the large in black....yes, it is big and boxy..best for cold alpine skiing, windy chairlifts and big gloves when you are trying to unzip or grab the hood..loves bashing the tree runs all day and doesn't snag or tear like my Cloudveil Enclosure Jacket did...amazingly warm despite the ample inside spaces that you would expect to be hard to warm up without adding another layer. so many features....the pockets are right where you want them and swallow gear such as goggles, wallet, ipod, bobo bar, map,and due to the oversizing you can hardly notice that your jacket has become a body pack!....zip off hood and skirt lighten the load (not a featherweight jacket) for around town Monty Wards styling..very unique texture and quilted patterns..pair with OR Odd Job hat and a Cuban and you could down an ole swill in seconds ala Jackie Gleason....Hood fits over ski helmet, bike helmet, climbing helmet....any freakin head covering you have and it cinches down tight. Hood zipped off leaves a nice high collar that almost covers your ears! Pit zips are key to vent off heat...Cons...$ and weight and hem draw cords thru pockets a bit slow to tug and unlock.

Wooly Hoody ups & downs

KUHL Thor Full-Zip Hooded Sweatshirt - Men's

KUHL Thor Full-Zip Hooded Sweatshirt - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 18, 2011

This hoody is cut big and roomy encouraging additional layers underneath, usually a wind bloc of some sort. I am 6'2" 175lb and there is plenty of space to add layers in the Large. Not a real fashion maker, all zipped up you will resemble a vegetable! The old school zippers are sharp and snag on things (chin whiskers, etc). Plenty of zipped pockets for stashings, but the double zipper feature just adds weight.
The hem cord is not elastic and therefore not very functional and requiring 2 hands to operate, ditto for the hood draw.
Not alot of wool content here (less than 30%) Despite these drawbacks, I find myself wearing it frequently and enjoy the thumb holes for snug glove fit and the roomy hood with stiff collar that blocks the breeze. Decent value, but not on par with Ibex
