I disagree - the large would be perfect for everything you mention -- __except__ the boots.

If you're adding them, get the XL.

L: Great 4-day non-camping trip bag with no gear.
XL: Think more of a lacrosse-gear-type thing: good for ski gear, full scuba gear, etc.

I've had one of these for 5 years - the thing is bombproof, and a great value for the money. Just bought one for the girlfriend.

Only criticism - through heavy use, the tassel-thingies placed on the end of zippers for a better grip during opening _will_ break off.
