Good little stove

MSR Pocket Rocket Stove

MSR Pocket Rocket Stove

Rating for this product: 3 July 1, 2009

This is a fine little burner. It is light weight and provides enough heat for just about any "normal" camping meal. While you wouldn't think it, this stove is fairly stable (level surface is the key). It's no old school Colman camping stove, but it is more than adequate for a small group (2-4) on a camping trip. Heating is uneven (mainly in the center of the pan/pot), but if you are good with cookware this isn't an issue.

The North Face Vario 23 Footprint

July 1, 2009

Anyone had an issue with footprints when it rains?

Mine acts like a collection basin under my tent during rain events. Even with the fly all the way down to the ground, water still seems to pool between the tent bottom and the footprint. It doesn't happen with a tarp. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.

Good idea, but has a flaw

The North Face Rock 22 Footprint

The North Face Rock 22 Footprint

Rating for this product: 3 July 1, 2009

The concept of a footprint is a good idea, overall. Footprints are lighter and easier to pack than a tarp and they save your tent bottom. The issue I have is when it rains, these act like a funnel and channel the rain water under your tent. While this can happen with a tarp, it's much more likely with the footprint in my opinion.

Great tent stake

MSR Groundhog Tent Stake Kit

MSR Groundhog Tent Stake Kit

Rating for this product: 4 July 1, 2009

I can attest to the comments made regarding the overall strength of these stakes. Despite their light weight, they are solid - trust me. I've driven these into rock laden ground with a chunk of granite and they didn't bend.

Coleman Cool Zephyr Ceiling Fan w/ Light

June 16, 2009

Only down. Switching the batteries around doesn't reverse the flow (or at least it didn't on my fan).

This thing is cool

Coleman Cool Zephyr Ceiling Fan w/ Light

Coleman Cool Zephyr Ceiling Fan w/ Light

Rating for this product: 4 June 16, 2009

No pun intended, but this fan is cool. Four D-cell batteries makes it a little heavy (maybe 5 pounds) but the weight is worth it for a nice breeze inside a warm tent. I use this fan primarily inside a Rock 22 tent, though I have placed it on the nightstand and experienced favorable results. It's not a household box fan (obviously), but it gets the job done. Air flow is in one direction (down), the bright LED light is sufficient for reading and the battery life is as advertised. The d-ring is sufficient for suspending this fan from inside any decent tent - the magnet will work if you don't have a ceiling loop. Overall this is a great fan and well worth the $20 (USD).

Nice pot set

MSR Alpine 2 Stainless Steel Pot Set

MSR Alpine 2 Stainless Steel Pot Set

Rating for this product: 3 June 16, 2009

For starters, this is a nice steel pot set. Obviously it isn't weightless, but isn't heavy in my opinion. I didn't think it would be, but the grabber is stable. Despite other comments to the contrary, I would NOT use the pot lids for a frying pan. The lids are thin (read: uneven heating) and you can burn food onto the lid. If you are in a pinch, the lid will work as a frying pan, but I would recommend purchasing something designed for that purpose. Overall though, the pots are very nice and worth the investment.
