Trust this filter

Katadyn Hiker Pro Water Microfilter

Katadyn Hiker Pro Water Microfilter

Rating for this product: 5 May 22, 2009

This is a superb microfilter. Packs well, the quick connects are a nice feature, and the water tastes just fine. You even get to give your arms a little work out to boot. I've used this filter in Lake Michigan and had no icky problems with my innards, so I definitely trust in this filter. Smallest gripe I had was the re-sealable bag it came with to separate your input and output hoses ripped the moment I got it. Oh well, that's what ziplock bags are for!

Yakima Boa Bike Mount

May 17, 2009

By itself, no. Use Yakima's Car Rack Configurator to find out what you'd need. Most likely you'd need the Universal MightyMount. But there are better options in my opinion, like the Forklift, for using factory bars.

Boa "squeezes" other mounts to death!

Yakima Boa Bike Mount

Yakima Boa Bike Mount

Rating for this product: 5 May 13, 2009

I likey the Boa. It is small, simple to use, more versatile, more aerodynamic, less ugly than trays, and oodles cheaper too. If you trust your face to the front wheel cam locks when you are riding around on your bike, no reason not to trust the same concept when it is attached to your roof. I have not used on any extended long distances yet, and actually have not even broke 60 mph yet(have not needed to yet), but so far has held up real nice. It is also a lot quieter sans bike than a tray as well. Installed on 07 GMC Envoy. Muy bueno!

It's a bar...

Yakima 58 Inch Round Bar - 1 Pair

Yakima 58 Inch Round Bar - 1 Pair

Rating for this product: 5 May 13, 2009

It is round, it is long, it is sturdy, and it is solid. I most definitely trust my bike on these bars. Installed on a 07 GMC Envoy. But kind of dumb end caps are not included. Is it that hard to include 50 cents worth of round plastic?

A beacon in the night

Petzl Tactikka Plus Headlamp

Petzl Tactikka Plus Headlamp

Rating for this product: 4 March 26, 2009

A great light that I've been using since summer of '08. Fits well and is quite comfortable. Works great around camp and is right on the border of being useful for night hiking. Only negative I have is it's claim for being water-resistant. Although I haven't had the great fortune of using it in any type of rain, there is no type of weather seal around the battery opening and I have doubts of it's ability to keep moisture out effectively. Still recommending though for sure.

Walkin' Brooklyn Side

KEEN Brooklyn Mid Casual Shoe - Men's

KEEN Brooklyn Mid Casual Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 26, 2009

This is a pretty darn good boot. Bought on a whim and fit perfectly from first step. I like the clean look this boot has. Only wish Keen had attached the tongue higher up the boot. I found out unwittingly that when stepping in any puddle deeper then the first lace eyelet you'll be getting your feet wet.

Keep it Kleen

Backcountry.com Goat Klean Kanteen - 27 oz

Backcountry.com Goat Klean Kanteen - 27 oz

Rating for this product: 5 March 23, 2009

I have had this bottle for going on 6 or 7 months now and have enjoyed every sip. Very durable bottle, only has a few dings from drops. Fits very well in my mountain bike water bottle cage. I don't get the metallic taste other reviewers note. I use the sport top for easy drinking while riding, which I recommend if you ride. If you like quite drinking with the sport top, avoid, as the air intake can be quite noisy when sucking down some H2O. If there's anything to complain about this bottle, it's the print on the bottle washes off very easily. Only an occasional annoyance as sometimes I forget how many ounces the bottle holds. Over all, I dig!

Working so far

Ruffwear Palisades Pack II

Ruffwear Palisades Pack II

Rating for this product: 5 January 26, 2009

Abbie has only had the pack for a couple weeks, so haven't gone on any hiking trips yet to fully utilize it's packing ability. But she has been running around in the snow with it on just to get a feel for it. Started letting her run without any weight in it and the saddle packs tended to flip up and over to the other side, causing the whole pack to shift to one side of the body. The packs are not connected to the harness along the bottom, so it would certainly do this without any weight in them. Added some weight to each side and has been working great since.
As other reviewers have noted, these packs do run larger then advertised. Measurements show my dog to go with a large, but heeded the advice from others and purchased a medium. Pack fits wonderfully so far.
Pack appears to be rugged and durable with solid stitching. The water bladders seem to be a bit flimsy but haven't had a chance to use them yet. Definitely recommend this pack for your pup.
