Great base layer, though a tad itchy

Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 16, 2010

Fantastic fit, the XL fits like a proper XL should (in my view). I find a lot of the other thermal brands fit ultra tight in an XL, this fits more like a properly sized XL would.

Fit is awesome, keep you warm.

My only complaint is that they are a bit itchy on the skin. At first I thought it was the wool ... but on closer inspection I realized that the stiching on the inside where the red stripes are (on the black/red one) are kinda raised and that's the part that's a bit itchy. It's not horrible by any means ... but still something I noticed and kept me from giving 5 starts.

Nice fit, warm and comfy

Stoic Merino 200 Bottom - Men's

Stoic Merino 200 Bottom - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 16, 2010

I have read some reviews of the Stoic lowers that complain that they are kinda high waist-ed. I actually like that since it keep your back warm. I'm okay with the thermal underwear riding a bit higher so they don't give you plumbers crack when you bend over.

In the XL they are very comfy, the wool feels great and they keep ya warm.

Interesting design, Odd fit

Stoic Welder Short Glove

Stoic Welder Short Glove

Rating for this product: 4 December 16, 2010

So I ordered these, being told that they fit similar to Hestra gloves. I have a size 10 hestra gloves which fit perfectly. These guys have a very odd fit. They are def a very small glove, however circumference wise they seem okay. Where I have the issues is when you go to clench your fist you get a lot of pressure on your knuckles.

It's as if they didn't leave enough room on top of the glove right where the fingers start from the body of the glove.

I got these on a 50% sale so at $50 they make for a nice glove I'll try to see if they give at all ... I'd say go for it and buy them if you fit in a size L glove or smaller ... just buy one size bigger.

Other then that, the design is awesome, I like the short cuff and I really like how it's very snug at the wrist, so they slide under my jacket nicely, since I prefer to put the jacket over the gloves.

Best Shell I've owned.

Arc'teryx Stingray Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 6, 2010

Up until the last couple of years I've always been a big believer in the insulated ski jacket thing as I didn't really like the shells from back in the day (the last time I did the 3 in one thing was in 1997). So last year I thought I'd give this another try and picked up a not quite Goretex shell and worked out quite well, so this year I thought, hey, I'll go all in and get a proper shell. So here's a few comments after using it for skiing for about 10 days ...First of all I should mention something about the colour. The website lists it as Everglade and I expected some kind of green tinge to it, however all the pitures posted on Backcountry and Arc'teryx show the jacket to be yellow with a hint of green ... well when I got it it was more green with a hint of yellow. The pic I posted is what it really looks like ... it's still a wicked colour and I love it, but keep that in mind when you order if you have your heart set on a yellow jacket ... it's not.The jacket is fantastic, fit is incredible. I'm 5'11" 230 lbs, I love the way the jacket fits, it's narrower in the waist and has room in the shoulders so it's quite comfy yet it's not baggy, a nice combo. The colar comes up quite high which is fantastic (the largest reason I bought this jacket) so that you can burry your face in the colar when you're up on the chairlift if the wind it really howling. Also the back of the color that comes up to your face has a nice soft backing so it's comfy. This jacket feels a lot warmer then my last cheap shell (no goretex) for some reason when the wind was howling at Tremblant and it was -18C it didn't really bite as bad as it did before, I think given the nature of this shell and that its a soft goretex the shell is thicker ... or goretex is that much better ... either way it's fantastic for cold weather with the proper layers.Breathability was good, though i have not really tried it in warmer weather yet ...in conclusion ... fantastic shell, great materrials, nice pockets, great build ... just have a look at the colours first as they are slightly off the website pictures.

Stoic Bombshell Jacket - Men's

January 7, 2010

The jacket fits very "athletic" kinda like the tighter fitting Arc'teryx jackets. Very narrow thru the waist but with a bit more room in shoulders. Def not a baggy jacket ... it's a nice cut I find. I'm 5'11" and 235 lbs and the XXL fits well, the XL was too tight.

Second crack ... sweet jacket

Backcountry.com Stoic 2.0 Shell - Men's

Backcountry.com Stoic 2.0 Shell - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 30, 2009

So this is my second review, I had to return my previous XL for a XXL ... so a bit about fit. I tried on both a Arc'teryx side winder jacket and that XL fit me perfectly, the Stoic 2.0 XL was a lot more snug around the lower portion to the point where I didn't think I'd have much room for layers.

Having said that, the shoulder/chest area is quite ample, however the lower half really tapers off quite drastically ... I'm 5'11" and 230 lbs so keep that in mind when ordering.

So ... the jacket itself ... the bamboo liner/thing that's on the inside of the jacket is incredible, you can wear it over a T-shirt as a rain jacket and you don't get that sticky Gore-tex on skin feeling.

So far I've worn it as a rain jacket and it's done a great job. For the money this is a wicked jacket. I'll post another review after I take it up skiing this winter.

Sweet jacket ... tight fitting

Backcountry.com Stoic 2.0 Shell - Men's

Backcountry.com Stoic 2.0 Shell - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 10, 2009

I just received my XL jacket. When I spoke to the guys at Backcountry they told me it fit similar to the Arcterix (sp) jackets, I tried on a Sidewinder jacket in XL and it fit perfectly. This one fits much tighter. Waist and torso are very tight while the shoulders are a bit better fitting.

Compared to my XL Cloudveil jacket this feels about a size and a half smaller. I'm returning it for a XXL. I'm 5'11' and 230 lbs. Someone in the reviews said something when in doubt go up a size ... I def second that.

The jacket build is incredible, the angle cut on the sleeves is perfect and the bamboo weave they have on the inside is super nice ... gives it a velvety type touch, if you wear it over a t-shirt it doesn't have the rough feel.

Overall for $109 ... this is a killer jacket. Once i get my XXL and take it out for a few ski runs I'll write a more detailed review.

Good bag, small compartments

DAKINE Fall Line Double Ski Bag

DAKINE Fall Line Double Ski Bag

Rating for this product: 4 September 28, 2009

I have owned other roller bags namely a 200cm Head 4 pair bag, but I was looking for a bag that has some clothes storage. I thought the boot compartment would be good for that. With 2 pairs of skis in the bag though the compartments are a bit on the small side. i was really hoping for much larger storage option, but all in all it's a good bag, nice grips and well padded.

Perfect Gloves

Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride Glove DO NOT USE

Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride Glove DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 December 17, 2008

So I got these back in the fall and I posted an initial review and thought I'd revisit after some usage at Tremblant and Whistler. The gloves are the right temp for me, keeps my hands warm without being too hot. The only time my hands got cold was at Whistler when it was -19C and i was holding on to a cold tbar ... i guess that's probably the case with most gloves, once I realized what I was doing, my hands warmed up right away and stayed toasty warm for the full day at -19C ... gloves fit perfect, the leather is amaizing ... perfect gloves in my books!

I've never had a better pair of gloves and I've had everything from Reusch, Dakine, Kombi and other brands ... best glove hands down.

Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride Glove DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 November 3, 2008

Just got these a couple weeks back, I will update once I get some winter done with them, but first off, I'm amazed at the quality of the stitching and leather. The fit is fantastic and fits under my ski jacket perfectly.

Very impressed so far ... they feel as warm as my old Hestra gloves, but time will tell this winter.
