I wanted to do this exact thing. The solution I came up with was to use a petzl mini-oval maillon rapide. The gap in the mini-maillon is about 16.5mm wide so it should be able to handle just about any rope/biner you want to connect to it.

If you mean side zips, there is actually a panel that is opened with a U-shaped zipper that allows for significant access to the interior of the bag.

It's not insulated at all. It's mostly just for rain/wind. When combined with an appropriate under layer you should be perfectly happy during 3 seasons of the year.
