Stoic Bombshell Bib - Men's

Stoic Bombshell Bib - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 21, 2011

5'11" 175lbs

Originally ordered these in a large as no mediums in stock. I wear a size 33/34 pant usually so I've always been on the line with mediums and larges. These pants are very true to the sizing chart as although I could use the velcro cinches to almost fit my waist, the legs were WAY too long. The mediums are perfect. That said, here's what I like so far.

Pros
- Athletic fit, not baggy, but definitely not tight. I don't feel the pants restrict my range of motion in any way.
- Great pocket size and placement
- Vents have a fine mesh
- Boot gaiters aren't clumsy, and they fit snug over my boots forming a nice seal that doesn't shift
- The actual bib portion is removable and 2 button snaps can be used to directly connect the pants to the Bombshell Jacket
- Breathes well and keeps the wind from getting to you
- Water beads right off

Cons
- The bib fits me a little weird in that the straps are right on my nipples. Talk about chafing. I haven't worn the bib yet due to this, so I can't speak to how well it conforms to my chest and if it restricts at all. Maybe I'll sport some bandaids on my nips and give it a go.
- No RECCO reflector. This isn't huge for me, but definitely disappointing when the matching jacket has one and the technology benefits from multiple reflectors...

All in all I'm really happy with the bibs and can't wait to put em through it this season.

Mid-layer and beyond!

Stoic Luft Synthetic Insulated Sweater - Men's

Stoic Luft Synthetic Insulated Sweater - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 21, 2011

5'11" 175 lbs - went with medium and it rocks. Super light weight, breathes well, basic pockets, ability to cinch closed at the bottom. I use this around town and haven't ever been overheated or cold, always just right.

I use this as my mid-layer skiing and love it - it still breathes well and doesn't bunch anywhere. I especially like the wrist gaiters as I can tell exactly where this ends and my shell cuffs begin. Makes for a nice "second seal" as well if you're adjusting your gloves or jacket on a colder day.

A+, lovin' all my Stoic gear.

Bombin

Stoic Bombshell Jacket - Men's

Stoic Bombshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 21, 2011

I'm 5'11" 175lbs and the medium fits me like a charm. I've only used the jacket a few days so far, but this is what I've found.

Pros
- Lightweight material, breathes well but doesn't let the wind nip at you
- Waterproofing is fantastic, everything beads right off
- If you also have the Bombshell Bib from Stoic there are 2 buttons you can snap in place to loosely connect the pieces (makes the waist gaiter a little awkward but definitely works)
- Great pocket placement and sizes (plenty of room for brews, phone, and music)
- AWESOME vents! underarms as well as one on the chest which is sweet for dumping heat quick (very fine mesh is used, A+)
- The jacket is just right for me in terms of bagginess: it's a little loose with just a base-layer, and perfect when I add my mid-layer (Stoic Luft Insulated Sweater)

Cons
- Thumb holes. This is totally personal preference and I don't use them because in the past with other jackets they made my hands sore with too much pressure, bunching, etc. The biggest downside to this jacket is that the holes are made of a more sturdy material which allows them to keep their shape - great if you use them I guess, but it does cause a LITTLE bunching for me at the cuff. Also kinda related: I use a pair of Hestra Heli's with the gauntlet cuffs so I bring those over the jacket entirely - not sure how well everything would mesh if I tried to cinch those badboys over the wrist gaiter and then close the jacket cuff over that. Minor details though.

All in all I'm super stoked with the purchase and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a solid technical shell.

Speed Racer

Scott Newcastle Pole

Scott Newcastle Pole

Rating for this product: 5 April 30, 2009

Picked up these poles after snapping a pair of the Scott Tartan's and I'm glad I did because they're a lot sturdier. The grip (like all Scotts nowadays) is comfortable and... grippy making for smooth plants. I'm a fan of the wrist straps too. The other review says they freeze easily, which is true - but I like that. I wear my straps pretty loose and like how they freeze in the shape of my wrist - I've never had the strap freeze together so I can't use it. And, even when it freezes you can still form them around your wrist. I rode with them ~20 days this season and didn't have them come undone once. Overall they're sturdy, reliable poles. I would definitely recommend them if you can get over the silly racing flag-esque design.

Almost but not quite

Scott Tartan Ski Pole

Scott Tartan Ski Pole

Rating for this product: 3 March 30, 2009

Pros: awesome grip, convenient straps, tips punch through anything, looks cool

Cons: small baskets, flimsy

Used these bad boys for a month and change. Just the other day I was charging a steep and planted in a mogul - snapped right in half. Funny because before the Tartan's I had a $20 pair of Kerma bargain-bins and they could handle what the Tartan's couldn't.

Columbia Golf Pro Plaid Stretch Pant - Men's

Columbia Golf Pro Plaid Stretch Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 11, 2008

20k waterproof as advertised + much warmer than I was expecting (coldest day I've used them was a 22F high) as my long underwear has been overkill so far. The pants are very comfortable due to the duality of belt loops and velcro cinches at the waist. The material is really cool and though you can't see it from the detail pics there is a heavier material (not sure what) located at the bottom back of the legs of the pants. I caught an edge on my first day with the pants and was terrified I'd ripped them - nope, I could see the line in the material but it held strong. Overall I'm very satisfied with these pants but would recommend to downsize as the waist is quite large.

Smith 2008 Holt Helmet

Smith 2008 Holt Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 December 11, 2008

Extremely comfortable, great customization (most all the padding is removable/adjustable), lightweight and looks awesome. Of the 3 pairs of goggles I've had they all fit really well. On warmer days I wear just the helmet and deep in the season a small skullcap. Great helmet, it's like wearing a hat but better.
