  • Bio:

First descents down Denali, victories in alpine freeskiing contests, big lines in ski movies, appearances in ski magazines, high results in endurance races and yoga teaching certifications make up just a fraction of Nick Devore’s impressive resume. Black Diamond Megawatt Ski

September 10, 2009

Write your answer here...I would probably say get the larger size, the shovel tip allows for easy turning and the surface area actually is alot smaller than the length. If your going for the megawatts you may as well go big right.

The Bomb

Black Diamond Bombshelter Tent 4-Person 4-Season

Black Diamond Bombshelter Tent 4-Person 4-Season

Rating for this product: 5 September 10, 2009

This tent has treated me well. It is water proof, and super bomb proof in storms and because of the single wall design, it is light and roomy. It has a spacious front vestibule and a smaller real vestibule. I have lived on Denali and in other parts of Alaska for extende periods of time and it is still holding strong. It is tight with 4 men but works and is great with 2 on an expedition with lots of gear. Highly recommended!

Review Title

Black Diamond Megawatt Ski

Rating for this product: 3 September 4, 2009

Some people like the Megawatts but they are just too big and sloppy for me, dont get me wrong they are loads of fun on deep days but I just all around prefer the new Zealots with a slight rocker tip. Without camber and side cut they just skip all over the place, I like a ski that cuts through the snow, not one that slides sideways when you try and turn. It is also a bit too wide for landing airs and is heavy for touring. Fun but not my favorite. Unless you can afford to have a full quiver including the megawatts for those 3ft utah days I wouldnt recommend it them. I have narrowed my quiver down to the kilowatts for groomer and bumps and hard resort days and the zealots for everything else. When traveling light to ski I would only bring my zealots, they preform surprisingly well on groomers and resort.

Review Title

Black Diamond Zealot Ski

Rating for this product: 5 September 4, 2009

These new and improved Zealots are amazing. With the slight tip rocker, the camber, side cut and stiff tail they are amazing on big lines, deep pow, crud and are surprisingly good on groomers and the resort. Unless you like carving and skiing mogals you dont even need another pair of skis. They have the support of a 190 but are quick and agile like a shorter ski and you dont have to worry about your tip diving on those deep days. This is one!!

Nice but not my favorite

Black Diamond Justice Ski

Black Diamond Justice Ski

Rating for this product: 4 September 4, 2009

The Justice is definitely a great ski, especially for touring and pow skiing. I never really liked the megawatt and the Justice is a smaller, more manageable version. Its not that I dont like the Justice, I just prefer the Zealot. The Zealot is the bomb. The Justices are a bit squirrely, I think due to the soft tail and the way it narrows out, theres just not much support in the tail and as a telemarker I really like a stiff and supportive tail. I also like camber and side cut to rip through crud and not just skip across it like I do on the megawatts and justices. If you dont like going really fast the Justice might be the ski for you.

Black Diamond I-Tent Standard 2-Person 4-Season

Rating for this product: 5 July 9, 2009

I love the I tent, it is nice and light and water proof and very east to set up, especially in a storm. I lived on Denali for a month in this tent and it was perfect. You can either take the vestibule or if your going solo and dont want it you can leave it behind making the tent even lighter. after using Bibler tents I will never go another brand.

These poles rock!!!

Black Diamond Carbon Fiber Ski Poles

Black Diamond Carbon Fiber Ski Poles

Rating for this product: 5 March 30, 2009

These poles rock! They are light and strong and very easy to adjust. I use them on and off the resort and certainly give them a beating and they hold up great. Their premo for telemarking because you can easily lengthen them for touring but then shorten them to the bottom at 110 cm for your low riding free heel descent, and bottomed out there are super strong and sweet. I also love the grip and strap.

Black Diamond Telekneesis Kneepad

Rating for this product: 5 March 26, 2009

These knee pads rule, ever since I started wearing them I cant ski with out them, I just feel so naked and vulnerable. I hit my knee on a rock a few years ago and broke the knee pad but in a few days my knee was fine, so lucky! I dont even know their there when im skiing and they also provide warmth and a protection for kneeling in the snow. The bomb!!

Rad all round ski!

Black Diamond Kilowatt Ski

Black Diamond Kilowatt Ski

Rating for this product: 5 March 9, 2009

This is my preferred choice for an all mountain/condition ski. Its phat enough to rip pow but it stiff with nice camber and side cut for the crud runs, groomers, and moguls. Unless its deep I compete on this ski, and I have also skied off Denali with it. Highly recommended if its your only ski!

Black Diamond Anarchist with Avalung Winter Pack - 1953-2563 cu in

Rating for this product: 5 March 9, 2009

The Anarchist is a great pack. I love it because it can hold alot of stuff for longer missions but it sits really well on the back with minimal things as well. It cinches down nice and tight and becomes one with back for enhanced ripping. I like the way it carries skis and has a nice side zip for easy access, and it has an avalung.

Backcountry Access Tracker DTS Beacon

Backcountry Access Tracker DTS Beacon

Rating for this product: 4 February 20, 2009

This beacon is simple and easy to use and works great but I cant stand the holster system, so I stick it in my pocket. The beacon is quit large and then with the pouch it is even bigger and it flops around and slides under my elbow is is super uncomfortable. I would recommend the berryvox.

Black Diamond O1 Telemark Ski Binding DO NO TUSE

Black Diamond O1 Telemark Ski Binding DO NO TUSE

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2008

The 01 is not only the best touring binding providing a stable foundation and zero resistance allowing me to make longer strides using less energy and making more turns, but it is also the beefiest and stiffest binding for lapping the resort. I use the ridiculously stiff cartridges which are strategically placed underfoot and out of the way, and the performance is unbeatable, going up and down. They have taken me up and down Denali a few times, up and down 24 of Colorado's 14ers, through big mountain comps, and off cliffs and I have yet to have any problems.

The kilowatts are my all round ski of choice!

Black Diamond Kilowatt Telemark Ski

Black Diamond Kilowatt Telemark Ski

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2008

The kilowatts are my all round ski of choice, they are stiff and responsive and can handle high speeds as well as tight trees or moguls, they kill it in the deep pow and on ice or groomers. They proved worthy on Denali's Messner Couloir! Light enough for touring and burly enough for tearing apart the resort.

Brilliant

Black Diamond Covert with Avalung Winter Pack - 1343-1953 cu in

Black Diamond Covert with Avalung Winter Pack - 1343-1953 cu in

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2008

Integrating the Avalung into packs makes things so much easier and safer. Although the Avalung can't save you from being caught in an avalanche it increases chances of survival once buried, why not have one? I no longer have to take off everything just to shed a layer. Aside form the Avalung, the covert pack is awesome, the outer compartment holds my shovel and probe and keeps them separate from my lunch and other stuff. It holds skis really well for booting and fits snug to my back for shredding and jumping off stuff.

Pro-tec IPS Hip Pads - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 16, 2008

The Pro Tech hip pads keep me warm and protected from rocks or hard snow. They provide a great cushion for riding chairs on snowy days and protect the bum from the classic tele butt check. I sowed a back brace onto them for the ultimate set up.

Durable, light, and easy!!

Black Diamond Carbon Fiber Ski Poles

Black Diamond Carbon Fiber Ski Poles

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2008

Durable and light the Carbon Fiber Flip Lock ski pole is really quick and easy to change lengths. I like to tele with super short poles but then I need them long for touring so I bottom out the pole for skiing and then quickly extend them for more power while touring. For an adjustable pole they have held up remarkably well while ripping around resorts and hucking cliffs. Killer baskets aw well.

Black Diamond Patrol Mitt

Black Diamond Patrol Mitt

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2008

What can I say, I am a mitten man. The Patrol mitt keeps my hands warm and dry on the coldest days. They last forever and are surprisingly dexterous. I use the backcountry.com goat liner glove for touring and then put on the warm mitts for skiing and hangin.
