Black Diamond Lost Arrow Pitons
February 15, 2012
i would trust a sling around a sizeable branch over a piton hammered into wood. if you're just teaching them correct technique for placing pitons, fine. but i wouldn't climb on it. creative problem solving is an important skill to a climber. maybe the best thing would be the toss the rope over the that first branch, adding a sling as the climber progresses. this brings back thoughts of a favorite climb at City of Rocks, Columbian Crack. its a classic hand crack that starts with what seems like an unprotectable chimney behind a boulder, solution: toss the rope over the boulder climbing 15ft to the first protection on TR.

Icelantic Gypsy Ski
January 29, 2012
i'm 5'8 160lb and have been rocking some scott p4's in 171. i have other boards between 180-190cm and yes they float better when it gets deep, but i always have fun slashing turns on the 171's. with 125 under foot and full rocker you'll be floating.

MSR XGK EX Multi-Fuel Stove

haven't tried this myself, but i think it would burn fine. however burning lighter fluid may lead to the jet clogging faster. these things will burn just about anything...

Armada VJJ Ski - Women's
January 5, 2012
when i stepped up from traditional camber skis in 169cm to CRJ hybrids in 180cm i was suprised how short they felt riding, sort of wish i went with a 188cm. i think if you're riding these in primarily soft snow off piste wide open you'll be stoked, on groomers maybe trees they are going to feel a little long. i'm 5'9 155 and don't drop cliffs taller than me...

Black Diamond Couloir Harness

this will work great. it wouldn't be comfortable sitting in for a prolonged period of time or taking repeat falls, but should be easy to slip into for glacier travel...

4FRNT Skis CRJ Ski
January 5, 2012
these have pretty straight sidecut and ski short. i'm 5'10 and 155 riding the 180cm's. i don't think i would want to go longer if slashing turns in trees was my goal. that straight edge wants to gun and never look back.... fyi the 180's are as long as my 188 s7's but don't waste as much legnth in the tips.

Metolius Master Cam
January 5, 2012
i perfer these master cams to BD c3's. the trigger feel on the master cams felt solid, and a little stiffer then the c3's. i like this, i think it leads to a more stable placement. i also like the lower profile stems, less bulk to get in the way of a tight placement or if one gets stuck and you need to get a tool in there. MAster cam's four lobes offer more suface area than C3's, a big plus depending on your rock of choice.
