Great Binding

Black Diamond Fritschi Diamir Freeride Pro Binding -108mm

Black Diamond Fritschi Diamir Freeride Pro Binding -108mm

Rating for this product: 5 March 2, 2012

I have Fritschi's on 4 of my 5 pairs of BC skis, one pair I have Dynafits. My freerides function just fine, I have 3 pairs that have been skied hard for 4 years and function like they did day 1. solid binding. I Resort and Backcountry with them 2-3 days a week during the long Alaska winter. I see reviews and things out there sayin Dynafit this, lightweight that, but releastically there are unfit BC skiers with Dynafits I lap, just get in shape and who cares. I have found (and there are blog entries that you can find about it) certain model BC boots and Dynafits not playing well, I will say I stopped skiing my Dynafits because I use top of the line boots (brand accomodating a wide foot) and my Dynafits and my BC boots do not play together well. There are many solutions in the blogosphere about grinding certain areas of the dynafits for extra clearances here and there on teh binding, no way! As now with the Dynafits I have to ski down in locked touring mode (approx DIN 19) or the toe releases. That just leaves me at risking knee damage otherwise, when I turn my outside ski releases, do that twice on a steep face or gulley and see how many more times you ski with those. My freerides, NEVER have done that! They are the unsung hero of BC skiing, so get in shape and throw a couple extra pounds on and ski with confidence, knowing your binding is ROCK SOLID!!!

Great General Mountaineering Boot

La Sportiva Karakorum Mountaineering Boot - Men's

La Sportiva Karakorum Mountaineering Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 12, 2012

I use these boots for General Mountaineering around south central Alaska. I climb peaks in the winter here, and yes it can be cold, and if anything I find these boots to be very warm, even for Alaska winters. Each person has different temps and comforts, for me these work fine! These replaced a pair of Asolo Alpinist boots, which last 3 years of intense use. My crampons go on these with no problems, snow shoes attach fine, and what I like about these is they dont have a lot of seams on the instep mid boot to break scrambling up long scree fields (the problem I had with my Asolo boots, constant cobbler repairs). Bottom Line these boots have functioned well for me, but then again I just climb mountains here in Alaska with them, in the Fall and WInter and Spring, not sure how that translates to what others are doing with them?

Black Diamond Transfer 7 Shovel

September 14, 2010

Sorry to answer an answer, but you shouldn't ask yourself the question if the size and weight are worth it, but those that go with you. If they have the transfer or deploy 3 and you have the 7, trade for the day with them.

Gigapower stove, windscreen, and etapower pots

Snow Peak GigaPower Stove Manual Ignition

Snow Peak GigaPower Stove Manual Ignition

Rating for this product: 5 June 21, 2010

I use a gigapower titanium stove, windscreen, with eta power pots for summer here in AK. Works great, I extend it's range to fall and late spring because of the setup is so efficient. I just sleep with the canister in my sleeping bag. The problem is really cold temps, the canisters don't work because the fuel won't vaporize into a gas. So I use the etapower pots with my dragonfly stove for winter. But the Gigapower stove, gigapower windscreen and etapower pots are the best three season setup I know of.

Awesome Ski - Use it everywhere

Black Diamond Kilowatt Ski

Black Diamond Kilowatt Ski

Rating for this product: 5 February 16, 2009

I ski the chugach mountains here in AK and I have Kilowatts in 185, I am 5'10 and 189 lbs. This ski holds on icy conditions, works great in powder, mixed crud is always tough but I go through it as well as with any ski I have ever skied, this is a GREAT all around ski. The only issue I have is new the tails edges stick (extra last grab) when coming out of a turn and keep cutting. Detuning the edges at the tails even by a half degree solves this, and makes these skis the best overall ski money can buy. If I was looking for a single all around ski, this is it!
