La Sportiva Trango S EVO GTX Mountaineering Boot - Men's

January 15, 2012

Crampons?
What sort of 'pons do you guys recommend for the S Evo GTX boot?
Strap on or step in?

I currently have the G12 strap-ons, but it would be nice to use a step-in 'pon if possible?

Metolius Personal Anchor System with Element Locking Carabiner

December 6, 2011

Is this the new 22 kN PAS?
I notice the pic shows the new Metolius 22kN PAS, but BC's specs indicate a rating of 18kN which is that of the last version?

I am needing one of these suckers, but I would prefer the newer version.

Any help would be appreciated.

Patagonia Northwall Jacket - Men's

December 5, 2011

Not R4 Fleece!
According to Patagonia, the Regulator fleece on the Northwall is closer to the R2 variety.
Just an FYI for you folks that are taking a look at this item.

Patagonia Knifeblade Pullover Softshell Jacket - Men's

November 29, 2011

How breathable?
I am quite interested in the Knifeblade as a climbing jacket, but I have a major problem with perspiration-therefore I need something that is very breathable.
Any input would be appreciated!

Patagonia Nano Puff Hooded Insulated Jacket - Men's

October 7, 2011

Belay jacket?
Anyone use this little sucker for a belay jacket? Impressions? Recommendations? I have a DAS, but am looking for something lighter and not so bulky for when I need an extra layer- but not cold or windy enough for the DAS.

Patagonia Micro Puff Vest - Men's

October 7, 2011

BP,
As much as I love the NP pullovers, my Micro Puff vest is not going to be replaced by the NP version any time soon. The Micro is warmer, and the shell is much more robust than that of the NP line, IMO.

An amazing jacket

Patagonia Nano Puff Pullover Insulated Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Nano Puff Pullover Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 4, 2011

I am very impressed with the warmth of this garment.
Incredibly light, packs down to almost nothing.
Got caught out on(got lost, mechanical problems!) mountain bike ride last night, and this jacket, was literally, a life saver.
Going to buy another one so I have a spare.

BTW: I am 5'9", 190 lbs, and wear a size 44 men's sportcoat and the large is perfect-not too baggy, but handles a base layer with ease.

Don't leave home without it

Patagonia Micro Puff Vest - Men's

Patagonia Micro Puff Vest - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 16, 2010

My single most utilized piece of outdoor wear.I have this along on every mountain bike ride(fits in my Camelbak Blowfish with room to spare) I also bring it along on every hike, backpack trip, snowshoeing trip, or backpack hunting trip. The warmth for the amount of weight is nothing short of amazing. The thing even is pretty warm when wet!Sizing seems spot on, with room to layer a R1 or Capilene or Icebreaker underneath.Patagonia got it just right with this vest.

MSR Lightning Ascent Snowshoe - Men's

MSR Lightning Ascent Snowshoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 14, 2010

I have been running my MSR's for almost 3 years, and they have been great. Very good over technical snow and ice.I feel like I can climb walls with these shoes. :)
I really like the bindings, I can use them with a variety of winter boots. I should note that I never use the Televator feature, but I will try it one of these days.
Not much bad I can say about these shoes.

Very well made jacket

Patagonia Nano Storm Insulated Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Nano Storm Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 14, 2010

Been wearing mine a bunch since I purchased it in October, been in temps of 30*F with 20 mph winds and am quite warm, this with no base layer other than a cotton T-shirt. Also blocks the wind very well. Jury is still out on how breathable the Nano Storm is-HOWEVER, I sweat like crazy at anything other than a casual stroll, so I may not be the best judge on that score!
I plan on taking this jacket to the Alps in a couple of weeks as my only warm jacket-I have a hunch it is going to do very well.
As far as fit is concerned, I purchased a large. I am 5'9", 190 lbs and have wide shoulders-I have plenty of room for layers without the coat seeming 'baggy' around the waist area.

Impressive

Patagonia R1 Hooded Fleece Pullover - Men's

Patagonia R1 Hooded Fleece Pullover - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 12, 2010

This is my first R1 garment and I have to say I am quite pleased. Used it on a long(6hr) mountain bike ride in rain and snow a few weeks ago and it was very warm, yet breathed well. That last is a big deal for me as I really sweat a lot!
The fit is superb, especially the long 'tails' as I have a long torso. The thumb loops are also appreciated.
I will be buying another one of these soon, methinks.
Nice job, Patagonia.

Patagonia R3 Hi-Loft Fleece Jacket - Men's

Patagonia R3 Hi-Loft Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 11, 2010

Very warm, especially considering the weight! Feels very soft, as well. The sleeves are a bit long for me, but that is fairly typical, I guess I don't have those Chimpanzee arms?!
:D
I am looking forward to using this jacket as a insulating layer under a shell this winter.
