GU Chomps Energy Chews 16-Pack

Rating for this product: 5 August 11, 2011

I'm not super athletic, so I can't speak for this thing in marathons. But I did take them hiking w/ me. They work like a charm. I can be dead tired and not able to take another step, pop one or two, chew, add water, and off I go again. My personal favorite is the blueberry pomegranate. Also I've found that if I open a pack and come back to it tomorrow (or even a few days after), it's still good, just the outside dries slightly, making it less chewy.

Icebreaker Nature 150 Hot Pant Underwear - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 26, 2011

My favorite icebreaker undies. I like the fit better than the hipster since it covers more of the rear. Also, icebreaker really does retain warm even when wet ... unintentionally got my lower half wet at the beach in cotton shorts, my legs thighs were freezing but my butt was warm!

Icebreaker Igloo Hooded Real Fleece Jacket - Women's

Icebreaker Igloo Hooded Real Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 12, 2011

Review update:
Previously I said this jacket had some serious issues with its cut. Well, considering the inevitable garment-to-garment variations during manufacturing, I exchanged the garment I had for a new one. I've since been living in this jacket for days. Here are my thoughts:

[ Fabric ] The fabric for the Igloo is niiiiice. The outer is smooth, the inside is fleece (merino wool fleece). While the fleece isn't quite as teddy-bear soft as the really nice polyester stuff, over a thin shirt it's not noticeable at all. The fabric is also substantial, so the jacket as a whole is soft and warm. It's the first Icebreaker jacket I've actually liked.

[ Cut ] I am 5'4", measurements 34" - 28" - 38", and ordered a small. Aside from the inconsistencies in cut from garment to garment (Icebreaker, quality control pleeeease), the jacket does look sharp. The cut however seems to be meant for street wear, as the sleeve-to-shoulder section is cut similarly to a pea coat (not raglan sleeves). Therefore, the arm mobility is not stellar. The waist area is smaller than I would have expected, so if you're a bit bulgy in the middle, consider ordering a size up. The arms are nice and long, but not too wide -- I don't think I'd even try to wear anything thick underneath. The hood, once zipped, is tight, but not uncomfortably so. Overall, I'd say this jacket is form-fitting but not skin-tight. It's definitely an outer full-zip sweater-jacket layer.

[ Color ] The color "divine" is a deep purple and more feminine than the Icebreaker color "Java". The "merlot" trim is medium-deep a grape purple. The hood is lined in the "merlot" fabric. The pockets are lined in the "divine" fabric. The zipper itself is "divine", but the unzipped portions have a "merlot" trim. I was surprisingly pleased with this color combination -- Icebreaker is definitely improving its color selection (IMO).

[ Verdict ] This has become my THE full-zip sweater-jacket. I love that this garment is much more robust than a cashmere full-zip, and much more normal-looking than any other sport-zip I've found. I'd definitely recommend giving this jacket a try, and I hope that Icebreaker comes out with many more fleece jackets in the future.

Icebreaker Superfine200 Meridian Scribe T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Icebreaker Superfine200 Meridian Scribe T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 6, 2010

This is my new favorite icebreaker shirt, and I have quite a few. I love the 200 weight fabric and prefer it over the 190. V-neck is deeper and cut is longer than the Flight V. Can dress it up or down. Have both the Abyss and Fiesta colors. FYI Abyss is slightly lighter in color than shown in the photo, and the color Fiesta is slightly more tame in real life (though not by much). I only wish the scribe print was more visible -- the photo's quite accurate. For those who are new to icebreaker, sizing chart is accurate (chest-wise).

Dansko Professional Cabrio Clog - Women's

Dansko Professional Cabrio Clog - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 November 17, 2009

I'm new to leather clogs, so I don't know how Danskos used to fit. What I do know is Dansko recently moved their manufacturing to China. The original Dansko manufacturer in Europe, Sanita, then chose to sell their original Dansko clogs under the Sanita name. I recently purchased both the Dansko and Sanita Cabrio clogs, and the Sanitas to me were way better. Here's a quick comparison: (1) Outer soles -- the Dansko outer soles were a hard and smooth plastic material, not as hard as LEGOs but not too far off. This made the shoes slippery (I could do pirouettes easily in these) and I constantly had to watch my step. The Sanita outer soles however were softer, kind of rubbery, and the grip to the floor was much better. (2) Footbed -- I don't have problematic feet, so to me they were about the same. (3) Leather upper -- the Sanitas definitely outshined the Danskos in the leather upper. The Dansko leather was very stiff and rigid, therefore uncomfortable to wear (I guess unless you constantly twist your ankle). Worst of all, it reeked of a very strong chemical smell that I couldn't stand, the effect of which is worse than smelling a permanent marker. The Dansko leather did not have the typical clean leather smell at all. The Sanita leather was much softer and more supple, making the shoe much more comfortable to wear. The leather also smelled the way leather should. (4) Color -- the brown Dansko Cabrio and the brown Sanita Cabrio basically were the same color. (5) Sizing -- the Dansko pair seemed a weeny bit bigger than the Sanita pair. Anyways, if you are thinking about purchasing the Dansko Cabrio clogs, I suggest you check out Sanita clogs too. Unfortunately, backcountry.com does not carry Sanita, but Zappos.com and other online retailers do.

Patagonia Merino 3 Pant - Women's

Patagonia Merino 3 Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 October 11, 2009

I'm a huge icebreaker fan, but have had trouble finding a pair of lightweight merino pants that I like. Figured I'd give Patagonia's merino a chance, and boy am I impressed. The merino for this pant is very soft, like buttery cotton-jersey soft -- it's a different knit from icebreaker. There is no waist elastic in the pant -- the fabric itself is stretchy enough -- so the pant does not become uncomfortable at the waist area. The fabric drapes very well and looks very nice. No pockets though :-( I'm 5'4", 39" hip. Got a medium, which fit great except it was TOO LONG. I had to sew the pant legs up a little. I'd say this pant in M is closer to 32"-33" inseam. I wear this for yoga, morning jogs, and lounging around the house since they're so comfy. Would be a 5-star if they offered it in short and added pockets.

Icebreaker GT220 Quantum Hooded Jacket - Women's

Icebreaker GT220 Quantum Hooded Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 September 25, 2009

Yet another addition to my icebreaker collection. Got mine in black. I wear this during morning jogs and after evening yoga classes. I wear a small in most icebreaker shirts, got a small in this and wish it were just a tad larger. Has a slim athletic fit -- looks awesome during exercise activities but a tad too small to wear over regular clothing. This thing has thumb loops but the hand opening is large enough to comfortably fit your entire hand through, not just the four fingers. Overall very happy with it!

Rating for this product: 5 September 19, 2009

Loved it so much I bought two. Finally a cute pair of womens' capris with large cargo pockets! Front pockets are deep with mesh interiors. Tie waist is indeed low-rise. I'm 5'4" and the capri length just covers my knee caps, maybe a bit lower when the waist is tied looser. Have a 39" hip and the size 8 fits very well. Fabric is light weight but sturdy. Buttons are flat so I can sleep in these without the buttons jamming into me. Aegean color is more blue-green than shown in the photo -- it's a beautiful rich color. Stone color is a light khaki that goes with just about anything.

I wear these to yoga and I LOVE them. 10% spandex really just moves with you. I don't feel them at all during class. Would recommend for yoga/gymnastics/any activity where you need your clothing to let you move. I'm 5'4" 130 lbs, got the medium and it hits right at the knee for me. Since the pant is cotton I would think twice about wearing this to hot yoga though.

Icebreaker SuperFine190 Gathering Birds V-Neck Top - Women's

Icebreaker SuperFine190 Gathering Birds V-Neck Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 August 15, 2009

I have these in blue and they're really nice. The color is beautiful and the print is very unique. The V-neck is not too low cut as it doesn't show the Icebreaker cami I wear underneath. Sleeves are very short and cut at a diagonal. I can and do wear these to work and for exercise. I only wish this shirt was 1"-2" longer -- these seem shorter than my 190 Tech Ts. For those who are new to Icebreaker, this shirt is a 190 weight, which is lightweight but not the lightest (lightest = 140). I'd wear this shirt up to maybe 90 degrees F. Soft and silky as are all Icebreaker 190 garments. Just bought the black one too since it's a great exercise top (V-neck and short short sleeves make this a very vented shirt).

Kaenon Porter Sunglasses - Polarized

Rating for this product: 4 August 15, 2009

These are Kaenons so the lens quality is said for. I'm mainly commenting on the look of these shades. I tried these + Georgia + Eden. I ended up keeping the Georgias. The Porter was surprisingly small to me, both the lens size and the temple width. These were tight on my head.

Kaenon Eden Sunglasses - Polarized

Rating for this product: 4 August 15, 2009

These are Kaenons, so lens quality is said for. I'm only commenting on the look of the shades. These are "retro-inspired" shades, meaning they look like (somewhat) updated versions of sunglasses from movies depicting 1960-ish women in convertibles wearing lots of lipstick. I was going for a particular look w/ my shades, so I tried the Eden, Georgia, and Porter. Decided to keep the Georgia but that's just personal preference.

Made my Oakleys look like child's play

Kaenon Georgia Sunglasses - Polarized

Kaenon Georgia Sunglasses - Polarized

Rating for this product: 5 August 15, 2009

These are amazing. Never thought I'd pay ~$200 on sunglasses, but I guess that's around the same price for a good pair of glasses (for those of us who are near-sighted). These things made my Oakleys look like child's play, for two reasons. (1) While my Oakleys (non-polarized) just made things look darker/gray-er, these Kaenons (gray lens) made things look darker yet somehow still bright. It's odd how the Kaenon gray lens still looked copper-ish compared to the Oakley gray lenses. The Kaenon therefore had better contrast. (2) As everybody else said, Kaenons have superior lens clarity. After I got used to my Kaenon, looking through my Oakley felt like looking out of a dirty windshield. Had to give up my Oakley shades, now just wear Kaenon Georgia. As for look, it's really personal preference. The Georgia is larger (lenses and temple width) than the Porter and it has a lot of attitude.

Icebreaker SuperFine140 Hummingbird Tank - Women's

Icebreaker SuperFine140 Hummingbird Tank - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 June 28, 2009

As the others said, this thing has large armholes. They're cut close to the pits, which is great, but they're somehow still too big, such that there's this sag unless you've got a huge bust (even for a size small, which was what I ordered). Also, as much as I love icebreaker, I do wish their manufacturing was more consistent -- the shirt I got had a roomier left side than right side. *sigh* liked the style and hummingbird print/stitches in the back, just wish it'd fit.

Patagonia Amaia Tunic - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 June 20, 2009

Shirt is very thin. Got the blue, shirt's background color is more beige than white. Actual shirt feels kind of like paper, more like the material of a really crisp men's shirt than a soft jersey t-shirt. Probably will be comfy for really warm days, but that's not the application I got this for. Not worth the $75 in my opinion.

Icebreaker SuperFine140 Butterfly Line Scoop T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Icebreaker SuperFine140 Butterfly Line Scoop T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 April 20, 2009

I love icebreaker items ... but their manufacturing really needs to be more consistent. The Amazon scoop T is different from the Tech Ts in three ways: (1) wide hem at neck, (2) longer cut, (3) butterfly print. Out of the two of these I purchased, one had the wide hem at neck, one didn't. The fabric is soft and gorgeous (I personally think they improved the superfine 140 fabric -- to me it's softer/silkier now), but I really wanted the wide neck hem, so the shirt that didn't have it will be going back. Also, in response to another reviewer, the long shirts (of heavier fabric weights) are usually part of the bodyfit series, so they're more body hugging. This T, as well as the Tech Ts, are part of the regular fit series, so they're a bit looser.

Icebreaker SuperFine140 Lily Leaf 3/4 Sleeve Top - Women's

Icebreaker SuperFine140 Lily Leaf 3/4 Sleeve Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 April 20, 2009

The shirt seems a little on the small side -- the sleeves are tighter than the sleeves from the icebreaker superfine 140 henley (also 3/4 length). The fabric is very soft and silky, which I think is an improvement from last year's (2008) 140 fabric. The flower print is actually quite visible, which I was not expecting. The V-neck is very deep, and the belize blue is amazingly bright. As of today 4/17/2009 a (very small) photo of this shirt on a model is on the icebreaker.com homepage lower right-hand corner, where the color is more accurate. For me this will be a beautiful casual summer shirt.

Horny Toad Laney Skirt - Women's

Horny Toad Laney Skirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 10, 2009

Very beautiful skirt. I'm really picky about skirts -- most skirts look ... wrong to me, somehow. This one though is really something else. I bought the white. The seams and panels were designed such that the skirt flows when you walk. Reminded me of white daisy petals for some reason. Very feminine and cute. Fabric is light and airy. The white is not see-through (has outer layer and inner lining layer), although I haven't tried with bright/dark colored undies. Am considering buying a second one. The skirt sits on the hips. Sizing chart is pretty accurate. Backcountry says the white is "white/green tea" but the seams aren't green. The entire skirt is white.

Icebreaker SuperFine Rio Pant - Women's

Icebreaker SuperFine Rio Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 March 2, 2009

This is definitely a casual pant, just not what I expected. The label says it's 190 weight superfine. The fit is rather loose -- not quite like in the picture -- I have a 39" hip and ordered a M, the the hip and legs are very wide. The look is similar to a wide-leg work pant, so I thought maybe I could wear it to work, but there's a strip down the side of each leg that isn't seamed, which definitely dresses the pant down. The waistband is not as wide as in the icebreaker lily pant, and the weird thing is the width set aside for what should have been the elastic is much wider than the elastic itself. Also, the pockets weren't particularly deep -- I guess deep is relative. The material is very comfortable, as expected for any icebreaker superfine 190-weight garment (I'm a huge fan of other icebreaker items). Maybe I'll try a small instead?

Oakley Betray Sunglasses - Women's

Oakley Betray Sunglasses - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 2, 2009

I love these shades. I never thought I'd pay so much for sunglasses, but I couldn't take these off my face. The lenses are smaller than every other Oakley women street-style shades except for the Disobey (as of summer 2008), so I didn't have the way-too-big-lens problem. I have the Polished Black/Grey pair and I personally think these sunglasses have a combination of a rich b*tch and bad ass look. Being Oakleys, the lenses are really clear and have safety-lens ratings. I'd definitely recommend at least trying these on a local mall if you can.

Oakley Betray Sunglasses - Women's

September 14, 2008

I don't think backcountry.com carries the Asian fit. Zappos.com does though. I am Asian myself and tried on the betray (non Asian-fit) at a local mall, then purchased the Asian fit on Zappos.com -- honestly, both fit my face very well. I think this is because the lenses of the betray are somewhat smaller than, for example, the Belong and Behave. I returned my Asian Fit Betray because the black gradient made me dizzy as I turned my head -- I'm waiting for them to go on sale at Backcountry to get the non Asian fit ones.

Icebreaker BodyFit260 Altitude Zip Top - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Icebreaker BodyFit260 Altitude Zip Top - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 August 13, 2008

This top is ridiculously soft and warm. I wear a Medium in just about everything I own but I'm only an A cup. I ordered a small and the fit was fine -- snug and body hugging, good for a base layer -- and did I mention ridiculously warm? However, what's up with the arm seams? There are several unnecessary (IMHO) seams along the arms. The seams are chunky underneath the shirt and rubbed against my skin. I actually had to return this shirt because of the arm seams. Will be looking for another Icebreaker Body Fit 260 item instead.

Rating for this product: 5 August 11, 2008

I was very skeptical of these at first, but after I wore them I loved them! I have a 39" hip and the size 8 was a perfect fit -- tight but flattering tight, not the she's-in-denial-she-needs-a-larger-size tight. They really do stretch! I can do splits in these! I'm 5'4" and the regular was a little too long -- as the pants weigh down over the course of a day the pant legs hit the floor. The rise looks low on the photos but it's not scary low -- maybe one to two fingers below the navel, depending on how high you pull them. If only they had more -- I'd buy one in every color.

Chaco Honeysuckle Sandal - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 5, 2008

These flips are super comfortable. Took a while to break into them though, but man is the leather soooooo soft. A word about the fit: the Chaco flip would probably work best for someone with narrow feet. My feet are between narrow and wide -- if they were any wider they'd "overflow" off the flips. Also, there's a weird rebound feeling when I walk in these -- there isn't a whole lot of cushion and I feel an odd recoil in my knees and hips every time I take a step. But, I love the way they feel on the foot. I'm a size 8 in everything and a size 8 in this fits perfectly.

It has a second layer over the bust area, but it's not a shelf bra, so what is its function? Rating for this product: 4 August 4, 2008

I liked the design of this shirt, but it does run large. Size yourself according to the sizing chart -- I'm a medium in almost everything I have but I definitely should be a small for Icebreaker. I also bought another Icebreaker cami in medium -- this one was larger than that one. The shirt itself was adequately thick, and with the shelf bra you'd have two layers of merino wool over your bust area. Overall I would have kept it if it actually fit.

Not perfect

Chaco Leather Flip Sandal - Women's

Chaco Leather Flip Sandal - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 May 19, 2008

This seems to be a flip flop for those with narrow, bony, problematic feet. The good parts: the leather was sooooo very soft and comfortable. The bad parts. First, the pair I got was asymmetric between the right and left feet, such that the left flip was fine but the right flip was too tight. (Apparently I have meaty feet. But I'm a normal sized person....) Second, the flip was not wide enough, so that my foot seemed to spill over the sides a bit. Third, the arch support was a bit too aggressive for me -- a short walk sent pains through my legs. I can see how the arch support would help if you have collapsed arches or other arch-related foot problems, but for those without these problems this feature may backfire. Fourth: the toe separator seemed to be a few millimeters too far back, such that my heel would look like it's sliding off. You may want to consider ordering a size up.
