Warmest ski sock I've found

SmartWool PhD Ski Medium Sock - Women's

SmartWool PhD Ski Medium Sock - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 January 16, 2011

These are super warm and fit really, really well- no strange lumps or bumps in your ski boots with these babies! They keep my toes warmer than the similar stoic and bridgedale socks I have. I'll keep buying them. Smartwool knows what's up.

SmartWool NTS Midweight Boot Top Bottom - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2011

I wasn't sure about the boot cut, but it turns out they're sweet. My ski socks come up over the bottoms of these pants, and I don't have to worry about scrunching long pants up above my boots. They're also very warm and do a great job of keeping you dry. Soft, too!

Just okay...

Gramicci Thera Haze Hooded Sweatshirt - Women's

Gramicci Thera Haze Hooded Sweatshirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 January 16, 2011

Although I really like the length of this hoodie and the fact that it's so planet friendly, it's just not quite right. The fabric is kind of stiff and not comfy and soft like you'd think a hoodie would be. Also, the hood pulls the button at the top back, so it ends up resting right at the base of your neck and looks kind of funny. I have black and it's kind of a worn-in color. I do wear this, but it's definitely not my favorite.

SmartWool NTS Microweight Zip-Top - Women's

SmartWool NTS Microweight Zip-Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2011

Fantastic light base layer! Smartwool makes amazing stuff. Fit is so cute, warmth is just right for cool days, and the shirt wicks moisture and stays fresh like nobody's business. I have a few different brands of base layers but always reach for this one first.

The one thing that would make it better: thumb holes.

Perfect base for cold days

SmartWool NTS Midweight Zip Top - Women's

SmartWool NTS Midweight Zip Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2011

This is the best base layer I have. Even though I have a couple different brands I reach for the smartwool every time- they just kill it! I wear this in 10 degree temps under my down jacket and ski shell. It keeps me warm, dry, and smelling as awesome as possible. The fit is really cute, too. I can wear it to the bar later and no one bats an eye. I wish I could wear it everyday...

Extremely warm, mobile but not waterproof

Hestra Heli 3-Finger Glove

Hestra Heli 3-Finger Glove

Rating for this product: 4 January 16, 2011

I'd say in 99 out of 100 situations these things would keep you completely dry- BUT I skiied in really slushy snow today and after about 2 hours the thumbs were soaked through- possibly from continuously wiping the sleet from my goggles, but still. I wish they were more waterproof!

Every other day I've skiied with these though they've been amazing. I have really long skinny fingers that get cold fast and I've never had a glove so warm. I wear a women's large in most gloves and in these a size 8 fit perfectly.

Ridiculously warm

SmartWool Balaclava

SmartWool Balaclava

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2011

This this is so light and thin, but ridiculously warm. Even after 5 hours of skiing, when the outside is frozen over from breathing, it is STILL warm. I couldn't find it today and wore a synthetic fleece balaclava instead, it was awful. I'm buying more of these things when they come in.

Great sporty & cute top

Patagonia Gravitee Tank Top - Women's

Patagonia Gravitee Tank Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 5, 2011

I am 5'11" so I have trouble finding shirts long enough. Some other reviewers mentioned that this came down below their butt, but on me it hits right below my hip and looks great! It's snug on top and then kind of flares outward to the hip band. I usually wear a medium and this medium fits me great. If I had a bigger chest it would fit better (I'm a B), but who needs boobies for climbing anyway?! I also love that it's pretty cute, and I can wear it to climb and then out around town later.

Tempting for the price, but not worth it in the end

The North Face Decagon Jacket - Women's

The North Face Decagon Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 December 28, 2010

I got this jacket to use as a ski shell and it just doesn't work for me. The fit is so strange. I am 5'11" and usually buy size large jackets in TNF. The large in this one fits okay across the shoulders but smashes my chest, and then the waist/hip area is huge and poofy so the powder skirt is way too loose to do any good. Also, not flattering at all- I feel like a marshmallow.

I made the mistake of skiing powder in this thing and ended up with snow up to my armpits within a few seconds. It's also not water proof, although the fabric is pretty water resistant. It does NOT have any insulation, as one reviewer stated- just a lightweight inner lining.

I gave it a few good tries, but it has to go back. I'm biting the bullet and going with the Arc'teryx Stingray.

Not as great as Stoic merino

I/O Bio Merino Contact Zip Top - Women's

I/O Bio Merino Contact Zip Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 December 28, 2010

For me, these shirts are just okay.

For comparison, I'm 5'11" and the Stoic merino in a L fits me pretty well, it's a bit loose I had to get a L since the sleeves are long enough to make the thumb holes very comfortable.

Pros: Performance is good. The fabric of the shirt, although thin, keeps me warm and dry and non-stenchy. I've worn this as a base skiing a few times and always been comfortable.

Cons: Fit! The sleeves and length on this shirt are really short, and I like to pull my thumbs through the holes when I ski. On this shirt the thumb holes cut into my hands. It's uncomfortable enough that I can't wear them at all. The fabric on this top is also very sheer, enough so that you have to be careful what you wear under it if you're wearing it alone after skiing, although it's still warm.

Bottom Line: If you're not an amazon this shirt will probably work great for you! taller girls, go for Stoic.

Good all mountain ski pant!

The North Face Freedom Insulated Boot-Cut Pant - Women's

The North Face Freedom Insulated Boot-Cut Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 August 1, 2010

It's the end of ugly ski pants! I did a lot of spring skiing last season and wore these pants from March until June through sun and snowstorms. They're a midweight pant and aren't too bulky. With a pair of running tights underneath they were perfect on the groomers and I stayed warm and dry all day. The thigh vents are sweet for warmer days and the cargo pocket is good sized. These pants have a lower waist than it looks like in the photo and fit like a boot cut pant, but aren't so low in the back that you get snow down your pants. They fit me well in the waist but are a little tight through the hips and thighs but I still have a good range of motion. I'm 5'11" and the long is just long enough, which is a miracle!

I like Prana better!

Arc'teryx Aura Tank - Women's

Arc'teryx Aura Tank - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 August 1, 2010

This tank did not fit me! I usually buy Prana but thought I'd branch out. I'm 5'11" and a 36 B and usually wear a medium. The top was too short and too wide and just overall fit oddly. The chest was loose but the ribs and stomach fit well. Where it's gathered and meets the straps it was all bunchy. Although the fabric was thick and soft and felt like good quality, I'm going to stick with Prana!

I usually love Prana, but this didn't fit right

prAna Erin Tank Top - Women's

prAna Erin Tank Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 August 1, 2010

I am a 36B and usually wear a medium, but had to order this top in a large. The neckline on this was really high compared to other Prana tops I have. It fit really well everywhere except right in front of my armpits, where I had these odd gaps. It looked like they just put a little too much fabric there. It might have fit better if I had a bigger chest. Other than that the top was everything I love about Prana, but I ended up returning it and getting the Ruby and Amaya tanks instead.

Perfect convertible pants DO exist!

prAna Convertible Pant - Women's

prAna Convertible Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 1, 2010

I love pretty much everything Prana makes and these pants are no exception. They're not just a convertible men's pant sized differently. These are actually shaped to fit a woman's body. I tried on many pairs of convertible pants and these were my favorite, hands down- they're actually cute and flattering! I've worn them hiking and backpacking and have even worn them around town with the legs zipped off. When they're zipped off the short hits the bottom of my knee. They're also really long- I am 5'11" with a 34" inseam and ordered a 12. With hiking shoes on they're just off the ground. They're a heavier material than the Bliss shorts and don't stay as dry or dry as quickly so they're not great as a summer pant, but when it's a bit cooler they're fantastic. I wore them in the Uintahs in July (65-70 degrees during the day) and they were perfect. They have plenty of stretch for off-trail hikes and bouldering. The mosquitos couldn't get through them, either! They do run big so order a size down.

Cute casual pants

prAna Kelly Capri - Women's

prAna Kelly Capri - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 August 1, 2010

These pants fit really well if you have some curve through the hips! They do run big, but once you get the sizing right they fit great. They have drawstrings on the bottoms that you can use to cinch the legs up a few inches and get rid of the flared capri look from the picture. They also have sweet velcro pockets that you get into from the sides. They sit in the front right above my knees and are huge, so I keep my phone and wallet in them when I'm out walking around. I wouldn't wear these hiking because they soak up moisture and stretch out pretty quickly. I have to put them in the dryer to shrink them down every time I wear them. If you're looking for hiking short/pant the Bliss knickers are perfect, but these are good walking/biking around town pants.

Best shorts EVER!

prAna Bliss Knicker - Women's

prAna Bliss Knicker - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 1, 2010

I own these shorts in chocolate, black, and most recently dusty rose. I was reluctant to get the rose because they look so PINK in the photo, but they're less vibrant than the picture shows. The fabric is really light and plenty stretchy but still sturdy, perfect for summer hiking and climbing. It also dries quickly and is comfortable all day. I have noticed that my shorts stretch after hiking in them a couple hours, but the drawstring waist takes care of that until I can wash them again. I am fit but still have hips and these shorts fit me perfectly and look really cute! They do run large so if you're close I'd order a size down. They're also pretty long. I'm 5'11" and the large hits right at the bottom of my knee.

Perfect everyday summer shirt

The North Face Ruckus VaporWick Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

The North Face Ruckus VaporWick Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 1, 2010

I bought this shirt for my husband and he loves it! We finally had to buy it in a few colors because it's his favorite one. It's really soft and feels like cotton but is super breathable and keeps him pretty dry when it's hot. We measured him before we ordered the shirt and it fits true to size. He has pretty broad shoulders and it still fit perfectly.

Love Prana Tanks!

prAna Amaya Tank Top - Women's

prAna Amaya Tank Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 1, 2010

I own this top in Blue Haze in a Large. I wear a 36B and am usually a medium but almost always wear a large in Prana tanks. This top is slightly wider than the Ruby in the chest. It is a very cute tank and plenty supportive for hikes and climbs although I'd wear it with a bra for running. It breathes well and has kept me cool all summer, and you can wear it out afterwards too!

Love in a tank top

prAna Ruby Tank Top - Women's

prAna Ruby Tank Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 1, 2010

This is my favorite tank. I own it in almost every color! I use it mostly for hiking and climbing but I've also worn it trail running, and it's cute enough to wear out afterwards too. It has a lower cut than some sport tops but is still supportive enough for me. The fabric is nice- it's a little thinner than the Nike dry-fit tops I used to buy, so it keeps me cooler in the summertime.

These definitely run small though. I am a 36B and usually wear a medium and a large in this top fits perfectly. Acutally I wear a large in almost all Prana tanks. I'm also 5'11" and it's plenty long and stays down during long hikes!

Good Pant, Bad Fit

The North Face Horizon Convertible Pant - Women's

The North Face Horizon Convertible Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 August 1, 2010

I really liked the way this pant performed which is why I'm giving them 4 stars, but they're not the most flattering. I bought two pairs and backpacked over slickrock for 8 days in them in March. They were pretty lightweight and kept me cool but held up really well through some hefty scrambles, and both pairs made it through the trip with no scuffs or rips. In hiking pants I prefer a loose fit across my hips and thighs, and although the waist fit the hips were way too narrow. It seemed like they were made for a man! If you don't have many curves they're probably the perfect pants for you, but I ended up exchanging them for Pranas (which I LOVE, by the way)
