Great Pants. But Beware Heat Sources!

The North Face Horizon Utility Pant - Women's

The North Face Horizon Utility Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 June 30, 2009

These are really comfortable pants that look pretty good on.
I haven't been lucky with the sizing - I fall right in between 8 and 10. I usually go with 10 just so I know they'll be a little loose, but I really could've gotten an 8 this time...
I'd give these pants 5 stars except for an unfortunate experience I had last summer with a previous pair. I sat on the tailgate of my truck to eat lunch during a road trip. Later that day I noticed some weird "gathers" on the back of my pants... Short version is that the (moderate) heat of the edge of the tailgate (which had been in the sun) melted the nylon enough that it started to shrink (hence the "gathers"). It's not so bad that I stopped wearing the pants, but it definitely looks a little weird.
So, beware any heat source.

mostly perfect

Montrail S'Presso Hiking Shoe - Women's

Montrail S'Presso Hiking Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 15, 2008

I bought these shoes to replace my decrepit pair of Montrail CTC's because it became apparent that the CTC's have been discontinued, and these seem pretty similar. The only thing I don't like about them is the lacing set-up: there's no way to cinch down one part of it without making the whole thing tight. Otherwise, these shoes rock!
Note: like the CTC's these shoes are NOT waterproof, making them less than ideal for snow or pouring rain.

nice, but...

The North Face TKA 100 Glacier 1/4 Zip Fleece Top - Long-Sleeve - Women's

The North Face TKA 100 Glacier 1/4 Zip Fleece Top - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 January 16, 2008

The fleece is great. Lightweight, soft, minimalist bells & whistles.
But it's just not designed for an average human. It seems to be sized a little small...
If you want a fleece that's tight, and doesn't fit over a T real well, this one is great. But if you're an average-sized person (not super thin and wirey), try something else.
