Solid Jacket

Montane Prism 2.0 Insulated Jacket - Men's

Montane Prism 2.0 Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 June 17, 2009

Never heard of the brand before, but pretty psyched I took a chance on it. Uses very nice materials, seems to be smartly constructed, and packs down very well. A great jacket for a cool spring or fall day or as an extra layer between laps in the backcountry. Great price for what you get!

Almost Perfect...but not so much!

Black Diamond Prodigy Glove - Men's

Black Diamond Prodigy Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 April 8, 2008

I bought these gloves thinking they would be the most perfect glove for me. My requirements were: leather (i'm a splitboarder and snow board edges and binding buckles rip regular gloves to shreds), Gore XCR (I need lots of breathability), removable liner (makes drying much faster and allows me to tune the glove to the conditions/activity level). I though these gloves met all of the criteria, but when I got them i discovered a major problem with them... The uber-warm removable liners had the XCR insert sewn to them such that you couldn't tune-down the insulation without losing the waterproofness, i.e. no waterproof shell. I've had other BD gloves before and they were awesome. And the prodigys were almost awesome. In fact if BD had just thought about their design for another ten minutes they might have though to sew the water proof liner to the leather shell, making this a more versitile and, quite possibly, a more perfect glove.

Great shoes!

Garmont Eclipse XCR Hiking Shoe - Men's

Garmont Eclipse XCR Hiking Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 8, 2008

My first Garmont shoes. I will be considering them again in the future for all other sorts of shoes. The Eclipse XCRs are great shoes so far. Garmont has gone to great lengths to make these the most anatomically correct shoes you can buy. Check out their web site, "a.d.d." it's pretty cool stuff. Anyway, these shoes fit great, walk very comfortably, and are waterproof without the swampfoot (thanks XCR!). They seem to be very thoughtfully and well constructed. And the Vibram G3 +2 soles are a great mix of soft and conforming with firm and grippy.

Solid but not Ultimate!

Marmot Ultimate Ski Glove

Marmot Ultimate Ski Glove

Rating for this product: 4 March 24, 2008

These gloves are pretty good, although not the best I've owned and certainly not the Ultimate glove. They are warm, almost too warm if it's above 25 outside. The XCR liner is awesome, besides the days that i'm just plain old too hot and sweating like crazy, my hands have been perfectly dry in these gloves...they breath exceptionally well. I've owned several Black Diamond gloves and they they hit the mark on dexterity better than Marmots, but I think the leather is a bit more durable with the Marmots. Although, I'm probably 30 days into them and they are already showing pretty good signs of wear on the finger seams...I'm a snowboarder so this is a common problem. My biggest recommendation to improve this glove would be to make the insulating portion of the liner removable for faster drying and make it more versatile in a range of temperatures and activities. I think this would be the perfect glove if you're an inbounds skier and don't have super sweaty hands and have a spring glove for warmer days.
