The North Face Denali Fleece Jacket - Men's

July 9, 2009

In this type of scenario, you should click on the chat now button in the top right corner. Im sure backcountry would honor the sale price if too much time had not passed. Best customer service on line. Also, click on the outlet tab up top, there are some on that site 40% off.

Great light

Princeton Tec Eos Headlamp

Princeton Tec Eos Headlamp

Rating for this product: 5 July 9, 2009

This light is compact with simple construction and is easy to use. Mine was stolen out of my truck (along with my osprey pack full of gear) ouch! I will be buying another. I never had a problem with the first one, and I like that the button is recessed so that it will not turn on in your pack. I also have the apex pro (larger and heavier, but brighter) and am very pleased with both.

You light up my life!

Princeton Tec Apex Pro Headlamp

Princeton Tec Apex Pro Headlamp

Rating for this product: 5 July 9, 2009

My go to headlamp. I have the newest version which boasts 130 lumens on the highest setting. The lowest setting works great for around camp, cooking, reading, etc. I rarely use the highest setting in order to conserve batteries. However, if you got stuck on the trail or river after dark the high setting could be a life saver (dont ask how I know). As one other reviewer mentioned, look for the 6 or 12 packs of surefire batteries as they are the best value. I have had no problems with breakage. I run lithium AA batteries in my gps and they are as much or more than the cr123 batteries. All of my other gear uses the cr123s. Once you use lithium batteries you wont go back.

One Sick Tent

MSR Hubba Hubba Tent 2-Person 3-Season

MSR Hubba Hubba Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 July 9, 2009

Great tent. Light weight, durable, and keeps you dry. I cant say enough good things about this tent. Love to use it without the rain fly so we can star gaze. If rain rolls in it only takes a second to throw on the fly. Two doors and two vestibules is great (don't have to climb over someone in the middle of the night when nature calls). Also each person to keep their gear dry and access it easily. Im 6'3" and have plenty of room. Also I love the way the walls go straight up, much more usable space. Also love the option of setting up with just the footprint and rain fly when your not worried about creepie crawlies. Just buy it!

Great for Kayaking/Canoeing

The North Face Dafda Boa Multisport Shoe - Men's

The North Face Dafda Boa Multisport Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 July 9, 2009

Great shoe for canoeing and kayaking. Also very light weight to carry backpacking for water crossings. Boa lacing system is great. Recently did 32 miles on Illinois river and shoe performed great. While my friends were whining about rocks in their sandals I was just smiling. Only real negative is that it offers no support and the sole is very thin so you would not want to do much hiking or canyoneering in it, but that's also why it is so light weight.

CamelBak Unbottle Hydration Pack

July 8, 2009

This shut off valve is nice. I once drove 35 miles to a remote area to mountain bike. Had thrown my camelbak in the truck seat and it was sitting on the bite valve. Needless to say when I got there I had no water to drink and my seat was soaked.

CamelBak Omega HydroTanium Hydration Reservoir

July 8, 2009

I have one of these bladders and sometimes have a lot of pressure on it in my full pack, have never had a problem with it leaking. I would not worry about sea water getting in it. I also have a bladder from the north face, it does leak.

Arc'teryx Acrux 50 Backpack - 2620-2990 cu in

July 8, 2009

Really depends on your style of camping and the gear you're carrying. I am packed for a 3 day trip to rocky mountain national park and I was able to fit everything (barely) in my 50 liter Atmos pack. I am a minimalist and my pack is weighing in at 29 pounds including food and water. For winter camping I have a larger Naos 70. This gives more room for layers and a bigger sleeping bag.

Arc'teryx Alpha LT Jacket - Men's

July 8, 2009

I can't vouch for the Alpha LT, but I have the theta ar and have put it through hell. I have been through thick woods, slid down rock embankments, and scrambled through thorn bushes (not a snag). It has been crammed in my backpack numerous times, stored in the floorboard of my truck, and used in all temperatures and it looks like new. It has been the most durable shell I have ever owned (although I recently got a sidewinder sv and have yet to put it through the paces). You can't go wrong with any arcteryx shell.

Jetboil Rocks!

Jetboil Gourmet Cooking Set

Jetboil Gourmet Cooking Set

Rating for this product: 5 June 25, 2009

I have had numerous backpacking cooksets, but none compare to jetboil. Compact, versatile, and efficient this one does it all. With the gourmet set and must have coffee press, I have made dehydrated meals, grilled fresh caught salmon, and made much needed fresh coffee in the mornings. The auto ignition has yet to let me down. Everything (minus the fry pan) fits together flawlessly and packs as small as my nalgene bottle in it's outdoor research parka. I have even fixed a full box of mac and cheese in the 1 liter jetboil with no problems. I have considered ordering the hanging kit, but I don't see a need yet, since it stays cool enough for me to boil water while holding it in my hand! I have yet to try it in sub zero temps, but im sure if you keep the fuel canister in your sleeping bag, or jacket (like most fuels) you will be fine.

Theta AR.... Bulletproof

Arc'teryx Theta AR Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Theta AR Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 25, 2009

I have owned this Jacket for over a year. I have worn it ice climbing, backpacking, kayaking, and for general purpose. I am 6'3" and 235. I normally wear a xxl mostly for sleeve length, but the xl fits great. This is my go to hard shell jacket. I have gone down a few mountains rag doll style and my pants (north face paramount)have taken a beating and been torn up, but this jacket shows now signs of any damage. The pit zips are an esential, I run hot, but can easily control my temp even when wearing a pack. Hood works great with a helmet, ball cap, or nothing at all. Can't say enough about this jacket.

Osprey Packs Stratos 24 Backpack - 1300-1700cu in

Osprey Packs Stratos 24 Backpack - 1300-1700cu in

Rating for this product: 5 June 24, 2009

I have the stratos 24 in size large and it fits great (I'm 6'3" 230lbs). This is my favorite day pack not only for hot weather, but in cold weather as well. I have gone down a few mountains Bear Grylls style and this pack can take a beating, very durable. Just don't excede the 25lb weight limit or the aluminum stays will start to dig into your hips. Also the straight jacket compression works great to cinch down your load or to carry snow shoes when not in use. Great pack overall, I'm hooked on Osprey. I own packs from Arcteryx and the North Face, but I will stick with osprey from now on!

Arc'teryx Covert Beanie w/ Pocket

Arc'teryx Covert Beanie w/ Pocket

Rating for this product: 2 January 18, 2008

I wear a size 7 1/4 hat and have very short hair and this beanie doesn't cover my ears. It covers about half my ears. Great idea with the pocket, but needs to be bigger. I will be returning mine.
