Backcountry.com Stoic 2.0 Shell - Men's

September 1, 2009

Here's the shoulder of the jacket- I left it hanging over my bike pump in the rain for 30 minutes. The flat parts soaked through pretty well.

DAKINE Heli Pro 20L Winter Pack - 1200cu in

DAKINE Heli Pro 20L Winter Pack - 1200cu in

Rating for this product: 4 September 1, 2009

Good pack, has plenty of room for food and other junk. Can hold reasonably wide skis- 140mm shoveled Seths fit throught the loops. The camera pocket on the waist is kind of small.

Backcountry.com Overhang Pant - Men's

Backcountry.com Overhang Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 1, 2009

This is a lightweight stretch woven pant. Quite water resistant, haven't had to try it in the wind yet. Material is fairly soft to the touch but is pretty durable so far. I'm 5'10" with a 30" waist and 33" inseam, the medium fits me well with a belt. It's comfortable in up to 90 degree weather.

Great fit, hood... dwr not so much

Backcountry.com Stoic 2.0 Shell - Men's

Rating for this product: 1 September 1, 2009

Good Stuff:
1) Fit - Medium is great for me- I'm 5'10", short torso, 155 lbs. It is tight at the waist, roomy in the body and has sufficiently long arms
2) Hood - Big, fits helmet, 3 way adjustable
3) Material feels very durable and comfortable, and fleece collar lining is great

Bad Stuff
1) The DWR is terrible (see below).
2) The main zipper doesn't engage well. I can't imagine how it would be with gloves. Use a Riri Aquazip next time, I don't care if it is heavier.
3) Higher pockets on the sides would be good, I can't access them when I'm wearing a pack

DWR:
I read some previous reviews complaining about the DWR but still figured I'd give it a try. The DWR doesn't work. I was on a bike ride in the rain and the jacket started soaking through after about 15 minutes of riding. I let it dry off overnight and then decided to test it the next day in a rain storm for a half hour. Unfortunately, it soaked through in certain spots, especially at the welded seams. I've included some pictures.

The jacket is fantastic minus the fact it does not perform it's primary function- being waterproof. If this issue can be fixed, then it would get 4 stars. 5 if the zipper gets better.

Not bad at all

The North Face Monte Cargo Camo Pant - Men's

The North Face Monte Cargo Camo Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 July 28, 2009

I have last years model (awesome white snakeskin camo) and these are great pants. There is a snap off key connector thingy in one of the waist pockets and plenty of room in the cargo pockets. The vents are well thought out with the mesh backing. Never had any soak thru, and the pants are warm enough without a base layer underneath the past two years in the northwest. Two things these pants miss the mark on: 1) I would prefer to have the hip pockets be easier to access while skiing 2) Zip to jacket interface.

I wear a small with a 30" waist or so and 32+" inseam, I would call it a regular fit, definitely not baggy.

Backcountry.com Overhang Pant - Men's

July 28, 2009

Could someone advise me on sizing? I'm not sure whether to go for the Small or Medium. I have big thighs, between a 30 and 31" waist and a 32.5" inseam. I wear 31" waist quiksilver boardshorts, size small north face ski pants and 31-32" waist jeans if that is any help. Most 32" shorts are far too big for me.

Rossignol S5 Barras Alpine Ski

Rossignol S5 Barras Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 4 December 22, 2008

I should have gone longer, but other than that ski is solid. Incredibly good grip on ice, good flotation and reasonably durable topsheet. I have heard of weak base problems but had no issues myself. Only downside is that it is really expensive now.

DAKINE Heli Pro 20L Winter Pack - 1200cu in

December 20, 2008

I went to REI and stuck various skis inside the carry loop- The new 107 waist Seth fit no problem, and Hellbents with 120+mm waist fit with few problems. Realistically anything under 130mm should fit fine.
