Nikwax Softshell Proof Spray On

January 12, 2009

probably not the best idea. a down jacket would be best used in conjunction with a technical shell if you are going to get wet. not really sure how to make a bag water resistant...

Petzl Altios Climbing Helmet

Petzl Altios Climbing Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 January 9, 2009

The Altios is very light and holds up really well to a brutal beating. for those of us who do fall. took a little to adjust the straps just right but once there you will not even know you are wearing a helmet.

Edelweiss Axis Climbing Rope - 10.3mm

January 8, 2009

The sheath becoming fuzzy is not a big concern of the rope, as long as the fibers are not becoming unwound. however the slippage and the kinks could be a concern. the question is mostly about the core. any damage to the core can make a rope unsafe to use. the best course of action if you suspect any core problem is to retire the rope no matter how old it is. the slippage could be due to the multiple elongations on the course. there are ways of making the sheath fit the core again, however they need to be taught by a rope professional for the ropes to stay safe to use with the public.

Smooth Gate

Petzl Locker Screw-Lock Carabiner

Petzl Locker Screw-Lock Carabiner

Rating for this product: 4 November 7, 2008

good biner.AWSOME screw gate, very smooth. works for a belay biner but is not very big, better for anchors and maybe a master point(although probably too expensive to want to use as master point).

Arc'teryx Delta AR Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Delta AR Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 25, 2008

Great mid layer. this jacket is warm and breathes well. exactly what you want on the trail or on the rock. wind will get through if you wear it alone but if you do not have a good shell this would not be ideal.

The North Face Fortress Peak GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

The North Face Fortress Peak GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 24, 2008

one rule of hiking is always protect your feet. these boots breathe well and do not let any water in. they have good ankle support and after a day of hiking you feet still feel good. I have not done any summer hiking in these boots but they might be a little warm.

Climb on

Mountain Hardwear Synchro Softshell Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Synchro Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 24, 2008

this jacket is really good. it is not too thick so you get overheated when climbing or hiking but will block the cold wind from getting to you. the pockets are raised so that when you have a harness on you can access the pockets. the fit is good too. the underarms are not too tight so when you reach for the next hand placement the jacket doesn't ride up. all in all sweet jacket.

Black Diamond Quicksilver Screwgate Carabiner

Black Diamond Quicksilver Screwgate Carabiner

Rating for this product: 3 October 23, 2008

Good biner. probably not the one you would want to use for a belay or rappel. Great for setting up anchors and great price seeing as you need a good bit of lockers for setting up some anchors.

MSR Hubba Hubba Tent 2-Person 3-Season

MSR Hubba Hubba Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 October 23, 2008

I have used this in all seasons except deep snowy winter. may not want to use it when sandy and windy. tent has one pole which makes setting up in the dark and rain really easy. it is free standing so no need to anchor it which also makes setup awesome. i highly recommend this tent to everyone, you will fall in love with it too.

Gets stuck

Petzl Am'D Locking Carabiner

Petzl Am'D Locking Carabiner

Rating for this product: 4 October 23, 2008

i love the am'd carabiners. i recently bought this auto locking am'd for my reverso 3 and found that it is a not worth the extra five dollars. it get locked up about halfway open on me very often, making the ease of the one hand operation not so easy. otherwise i love that it locks automatically, makes it easy to perform the once over before climbing.

Black Diamond Momentum AL Harness

Black Diamond Momentum AL Harness

Rating for this product: 4 October 23, 2008

the momentum is a great and very cost effective harness. it is a little slower to put on than the speed but that should not be the deciding factor of buying a harness. it is a good harness and does the job.

nice

Arc'teryx C40 Chalk Bag

Arc'teryx C40 Chalk Bag

Rating for this product: 5 September 18, 2008

its a good bag. the lip is sort of stiff so the mouth of the bag is always open. the belt is simple but makes it easy to use if not harnessed up. perfect size for sport or some bouldering.
