thin but strong

Mammut Dyneema Crocodile Sling - 10mm

Mammut Dyneema Crocodile Sling - 10mm

Rating for this product: 5 June 16, 2009

I prefer these to thicker sewn dyneema or nylon slings. they save a little bit of weight for an entire rack but the real savings is not worrying about tangles when in alpine draw form. easy to unclip and clip back and they rack over the shoulder really well. I've seen old (8+ yrs) dyneema slings strength tested and hold nearly to rated capacity and they were well worn. awesome slings!!!

Great Nut set with crazy range

DMM Wallnuts Set

DMM Wallnuts Set

Rating for this product: 5 June 10, 2009

I'm sad to say i got these nuts before they came in anodized colors. I feel it would help greatly. I also have a set of colored ABC Huevos Nuts and love them. These have the crazy shape that allow for more secure placements in varied rock surfaces where traditional nuts might have less surface area contact. The largest size cuts weight by hollowing out the inner portion on the small side resulting in even more secure placements. I've fallen on these down to the size 5 and no problems. They do deform a bit when bashing them out but all the nuts I have do. Superior design to the standard wired nuts on the market and now they're colored for easier size identification!

Octane climbing pack

CamelBak Octane 14+ Hydration Pack - 3L

CamelBak Octane 14+ Hydration Pack - 3L

Rating for this product: 5 May 29, 2009

Just returned from a damp trip in the Linville gorge with this as my climbing pack. It compresses down and fits nearly unnoticed when climbing. Most reviews say it is a race pack but lightweight and slim design lend it to use for all day climbing. I was able to fit my shoes, a rainshell, headlamp, camera, packcover, and 3L of H2O with the front zipper shut. The red is a bit bright for me but that was the only color I could get and it does stand out on a wall. My only complaint was that the bottom of the pack blocked my chalk bag but I may just need to play with the adjustment straps.

Choice SoftShell

Backcountry.com Shift Element Softshell Jacket - Men's

Backcountry.com Shift Element Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 11, 2009

Now this is a soft shell and at a great price. I am 6'2" and about 160lbs and the large fits well. It is a bit bulky in the arms but the chest isn't too large and the sleeves are long but a bit of extra baggage. It would be nice if it had an internal pocket and hook and loop closure around the wrists but not a big deal. The fabric is the thickest for a powershield I have seen, thicker than my Gamma MX Hoody. Fabric is super durable and will last for years. The pockets are glued which is a nice addition. Check the Jacket out, you'll be glad you did!

Not standard marmot quality

Marmot Meta Softshell Jacket - Men's

Marmot Meta Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 February 3, 2009

This jacket is not one of the signature marmot pieces. It must have been made in limited quantities for BC. The pit zips are about 5" and lay above the arm material. I have never run into pit zips like this before. I'll be returning it for sure. If you care to disassemble the pit zips and sew it back together it could be a nice jacket. The hood is not helmet compatible which is a let down. It has interesting front zippers (one on top and one on bottom) not sure why this is the case. It is much shorter than any other medium jacket I have purchased (6'2" and 160lbs) but a large would be way too baggy in the stomach/chest. Not a recommended jacket, check out real marmot gear like the king pin or go with arc'teryx.
